whats the best way to pack a third member for shipping

I was shipped a 3rd in a bucket and it arrived split and come to find out a year + later it was also damaged:protest: I rotated it when I recieved it and it seemed ok. Just recently I heaved it on the bench and rotated a full 360 and it had a catch. Needless to say, I`m pissed.
