Does anyone have pics of side pipes on a Duster? Please post them! I'm not interested in the lake-pipe style, where the pipe runs along the length of the rocker, I'm talking about ones that are like those on the T/A Challenger and AAR Cuda as well as ones that exit behind the front wheel; either through the fender or under it, like the exhaust on a Mercedes SLR. As far as a muffler goes I'd like to do it just like the muffler on the Mercedes SLR, it's mounted vertically in the back of the fender and is shaped like an upside down "U".

These are from dad's 1970 340 Duster in the early 70's.
They were not functional.

That's sick! Neither of the side pipes are functional? Not the lakes or the double chrome tips? Thanks

You don't wanna hear what I think of those side pipes, even when they were "popular."

T/A, AAR style exhaust. There are some guys on here who've done it with their A bodies

I like side pipes...why should all the good music be pointed away from you ? I run them on my Mustang. Even more awesome if you are in a tunnel ..And it doesn't sound like a 4 cylinder..

We are thinking about them with the Duster....

I think a discrete pipe in front of the rear tires is better that the ones that used to burn your legs..

Interesting discussion.

Spintech makes mufflers that would work if you are looking for an "aar" style exhaust. Last I looked they had cases with the in/out on the same end

I'd like to do this. It's a mopar clay model prototype that was never produced.

Even though I'd never stick that much crap on my vehicle, I must say:

That Duster SCREAMS 70's!! It's a perfect example of what vehicle mods back then were, and I LOVE IT!!! I especially love the color combo; Bronze with flat black and white break... I'd never paint my vehicle those colors or that schema, but every time I come to this thread, I see that car and I just go "WOW that's cool!!!"

From what I can see from the near-microscopic image (big resolution = better gaming and movies, but smaller web images), it looks pretty wicked!! Very 70's, and almost has a George Barris feel even though it's way too aesthetically quiet for a Barris design. Once I get to the exhaust (ran out of funds) on mine, she's going to dump on each side right in front of the rears. Was tempted to do a square tip and paint it body color to sort of hide it away a bit.

Also, anything is possible with steel and a good welder! :)

It's kinda tough to see in the picture, but my exhaust consists of 3' Magnaflows with the pipes exiting just behind the doors. The pipes were pieced together with oval tubing from Spintech then painted (hi-temp)black. I'll get some pics of the underside for ya if you'd like.

I saved it off the web, came out small. Was not sure how to make it bigger. So I printed it - full page, then scanned it thinking it would be bigger. Came out same size when uploaded :( Obviously I'm computer challenged. Tell me how and I'll make it bigger. I think the design is way cool. It even includes gills.

i have the same side pipes as on the 70s duster for my gmc van.cant wait to put them on,and yes they will be functional!

from what i gather they are a pretty rare piece and very desired.

Mine, its some magnaflow knockoff muffler(see facepalm), and it just a pair of standard mufflers with well angled pipes.

Next step is to see if i can change to a single magnaflow X-flow muffler.

This was the Duster after only six months of ownership.

Post the web link and I'll see what I can do. If it's too small, blowing it up will kill the resolution

Did not know that existed. Where would you mount it?

Not totally sure if it will even work yet. Basically its a muffler/X-pipe in one piece. And with my exhaust setup i can't fit mufflers and an X-pipe. And i like the sound of X-pipe exhausts a lot more.

Here's a pic I snapped of sidepipes on a Duster. I know its not the kind you are thinking about putting on your car, but cool anyway.

Do they drag at all?
