Nobody gave rpm examples. I had a 383 GTS 4 speed Dart with 4:30 gears and a 26 in tire in high school. At 50 mph I tached 3k. My brother had a 383 RR auto with 4:10s that tached 3k at 60mph.
sounds about right- when I had the 340 in my duster with the 4.10s, 85 mph was around 4500 rpm, and that was about the fastest I liked to cruise at. And the top-end of 110 or so came right at the quarter mile mark, so they worked out perfectly.
Those gears with a stock 1979 360, a little less fun lol.
