67 Dart Post Project

I just got the call that my driveshaft is ready to be picked up. I could slap my old blue steering wheel on there and try to drive it. I'll probably put my sure grip 3rd member in first though. Maybe on Sunday!!

Put the 3.55 Sure Grip in and installed the drive shaft on Sunday. Everything fit great and the install went quick. I welded on my second set of Dynomax VT mufflers also. This set is supposed to have a stiffer spring to prevent the valves from rattling but they are still making noise..... Oh well, I 'll leave it for now and if it bothers me I'll weld the valve open. I had to put a dent in the exhaust so it would clear the reverse shift rod but it was no big deal. Got the 68 bezels installed also and It turned out great. Like I stated before, the headlights are not centered in the opening but it's not noticeable.

Accomplished quite a bit on the Dart today. Installed the new Grant steering wheel along with the front arm rests. Applied the sound deadener to the roof of the car and then started to put the headliner in. Spent about an hour on the headliner before I decided to work on something else for a bit so it's not done yet. Definitely takes some patience. I mounted up my freshly painted bumper brackets so I could mock up the unlimited products fiberglass bumpers. I'll be getting them painted body color soon now that they have been mocked up.

Finally got around to fabricating some new rear shock mounts. I moved the rear end 1.5" back when I did the spring relocation. Because of this the stock upper shock mounts won't work. I flipped the lower shock mounts so the shocks are in front of the axle now and welded in a new crossmember for the upper mounts. I made it extra beefy just in case i decide to do a 4 link in the future.

Some teaser pics. Almost there. Actually took her for a little drive around the airport hanger. This car is gonna get me in trouble for sure. I can't imagine what it will be like once the carb and ignition are all tuned. Headliner gets finished tonight and then it's just installing the glass and it will be street legal.

Yup, Stroker with a 4spd. Wait til you get to open up the secondary's and get to bang thru the gears. When I had my 70 Dart Stroker with 4spd, I took a friend for a ride and we took off from a light up an on ramp and I jumped on it and banged all the gears. When we got back to the office he said DAMN when you hit second gear I lost my Vision for a second! This guy owns a C6 Corvette 6spd and he absolutely did not want any part of lining them up cuz he knew he would have had his *** handed to him!!

Haha, I can't wait to let her rip!! Went for another short ride around the airport tonight. As soon as I got home I ordered a set of front and rear Hellwig sway bars. Damn this thing has some body roll!!!

holy hell man!!! I just went through this entire thread again man! hours of reading!!! VERY VERY nice job!!! AMAZING skill you have man....just awesome...

Got the front and rear glass installed along with the front Hellwig sway bar. Couldn't get the rear sway bar on due to my rear end being moved from the stock location. Gonna try to mount it backwards next time I'm there. I sent in the registration to remove it from Non-op status so it will be on the street soon. Also found a set of vintage plates that suit the car. I need to restore them but they're not too bad. My last name is Wartgow so I'm thinking Wartgow's Quick Stroker 408... :)

very nice love the color! the bumpers look great with the bolt s gone. have fun with it when you get it done

Received my black and yellow plates so I started the restoration process on them. Stripped them down and put a nice thick coat of School Bus Yellow followed by a coat of clear. Going to let them dry for about a week and then I'll coat them in Black. Before the black fully cures I'll carefully wipe the tops of the letters with lacquer thinner to remove the black. I've heard this is the easiest way to do license plates and yields great results. We shall see.

Nice car! Can you show how you mounted the bumpers without putting bolts through them?

The bumpers are fiberglass so I just used JB weld to glue the bolts to the back side of the bumpers in the appropriate locations.

any updates to the car?

Nothing much new to write about. The car has quite a few minor things to finish up but I just haven't been motivated to work on it. I have put a couple hundred miles on it and it's a blast to drive. Has much better road manners than I was expecting but it drinks premium like its going out of style.

Peak Dashes-I bought one too-love it. I think his screen name is cashA10? If you go to the classifieds interior parts, you should be able to find it

I know I'm gonna catch hell for this and I'll probably regret it but I'm considering selling the Dart. I've been trying to buy a house here in San Diego and they are crazy expensive. The Dart would make a nice down payment and I can always enjoy building another one in the future. Here are some pictures from a few months ago. I can get current ones if there's any serious interest. Most of the minor stuff that is missing in the pics is done now with the exception of the window trim and fixing an oil leak. Odometer shows 300 miles so far so it's barely broke in. What you think is a reasonable selling price? I've got $20k just in parts and materials at this point.

$20k is a down payment????... So we're talkin' $400k for a house (5% down)????...Your houses are cheap compared to here!

400k will buy a 40 year old fixer upper in an OK part of town. Close to the beach you need to add a zero.

Man this Dart turned out nice. Its a shame it will take selling it to buy a house. In the past I have sold off my collection to buy my first house. Fortunately it was at the lowest point in the market at the time. I bought a real rough fixer in Costa Mesa for 179k. Of course the cars weren't worth much then either. I regret selling some of the cars (2 for sure) my Tor-red Superbird and my R/T Charger. I have been chasing the dream of owning a superbird ever since. Unfortunately the prices have climbed into the stratosphere. Think hard before letting it go.

It's a tough decision for sure but for me, building it was half the fun. Hopefully i can at least get the cost of the parts out of it if i sell it.
