Hey, guys.
I have been searching for the rear axle solution for my 'Sport for quite a while now, getting down to crunch time.

I got a price from one vendor for a complete (drum to drum) freshly rebuilt 8 3/4, sure grip, A body width, large bolt pattern aftermarket axles, 4.10 gears, 489 case, cush sleeve eliminator for $1750ish before shipping..

Honestly, it's a lot more than I want to spend and it will hurt but it's pretty much exactly what I want for my car and assuming the guy is good for his word, it would save me a ton of work...so I'm willing to eat beans out of a can for a month if it gets my Dart back on the road sooner.

...but a trusted local Mopar expert whose opinion I value believes that this might be too much cash so I'm hesitant to submit the order.

Can anyone point me in a direction of a vendor that they like? Anyone mind sharing what they paid for a similar assembly?

Thanks!!
-Mike

Call Dr Diff, Cass is a good seller

Agreed 100%.
I got some parts from him, good seller and he took the time on the phone to explain a few things i was wondering about. Good honest guy, and he won't steer you wrong. His prices are more than fair for what you're getting.
Hell, you could go with a S 60 from strange for that coin and have the wow factor and not break it for a little more if you want to go that way.

Actually, check out my build thread, you'll be surprised at what a B-Body rear diff in your car can do for you price wise unless you are mini tubbing it, relocating the springs, and going for the maximum tire you can get under your Dart Sport.

I don't see the problem here... Housing, new axles, rebuilt sg, new gears all set up and with brakes for 1700 ?

What do you think it should cost, i don't see how this person is making money to continue.
At that price id be suspicious if ANYTHING were new, and anything done at all, and some expert told you it's to expensive.... you need a new expert.
.

If thats to much why not rebuild yours, which done correctly would be less than 1700, and more than 650.

.

core 489 case -? 50-100
new SG - 300
Ring pinion - 300
bearing kit - 120
new axels - 300
housing - 500ish 4-6
brakes, h-ware, wheel cyls, 50+
drums - 50

perhaps might be high on housing a-body housings aren't cheap or easy to find. He is probably cutting c-housing but jigging that isn't free either. this is at what you pay prices +/- with no mark up, then he has to assemble and shipping (his shipping of parts). 1,700 doesn't look like it is out of line to me.

I don't see the problem either?
Axles -$300.00
Gear set and bearing $280
Sure grip or tru track-$450
Housing $400
Brakes $300-
Over $1700 and that does not include labor for set up or a yoke and misc. parts?
A pinion seal for 742 case is over $20.00 today

What is wrong with the 8 1/4 in your car?
It cost money to play today and if you have to eat beans out of can to afford some parts-you really don't need to be buying the parts.

I bought a Dana 60 with 4.10 gears complete axle to axle with rear disc brake conversion with drilled and slotted rotors for $1850. I met the guy at Mopars in the Park, but bought it from his eBay site. It was set up with the proper spring perches an was a bolt in install with the exception of running new steel brake lines for the calipers. I am very happy after a year of driving on it. If you want the guys name, I have his email address still.

Did we discuss the ford 8.8? It's an option, read the top sticky. Even with someone doing the tube shortening and straightening, you'd only be into it $5-700.
