Trends from the 60's

See if you can dig up some pix of pit/tow trucks used at drag strips and Bonneville. Dragsters back then did not have starters so they usually were push started through the staging lanes. A lot of those vehicles were pickups. Same thing at Bonneville and the dry lakes. Of course a hot rodder could not leave anything too stock. Mag style wheels were not real common or cheap so usually the first step up was chrome reverse wheels w/ chrome baby moon hubcaps. Or plain painted wheels w/ chrome baby moons. Scallops or panel painting were popular on custom trucks because the lines were generally "squarish". If you really feel like steppin' out, hard to go wrong with flames.

I see a LOT of old trucks running around today with faded paint and some faded out hand painted business name on the door. A lot of those are actually "new" paint jobs. There is some skill involved to make the new look old. Just look at the intro to "Sanford and Son". I was out west last fall and took some pix of old abandoned trucks. Old patina with the faded door signs and holes, rust, etc.
