I recently picked up a 78 power wagon 200 with the 400 2 barrel set-up. I picked a carter thermo-quad and 4 barrel intake from a 440. I was wondering if swapping out intakes was possible since they are both RB. Any info on whether or not this is possible would be nice along with pros and cons. Also this is my first thermo-quad so any tips on tune up what too look for problem wise would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It can not be done because one engine is a "B" block and one is a "RB" block. There is a 1 inch difference in width on the intake manifolds.

"B" series engines are;

350
361
383
400

"RB" series engines are;

The 1 or 2 year only 383
413
426 Wedge, not HEMI
440

Tune the TQ like any other carb starting with the primary side. The availability of tuning kits are very hard to find & expensive. It is possible to use a AFB kit from Edelbrock if you re-bend them 3/4 of a inch shorter. Clip off the extra material.

Find out what rods you have in the carb now. Edelbrock sell just a rod kit. I would start with that kit with similar rods as what is stock.

What is the carbs number?
(Located on the rear mounting tab of the carb.)

Do find the thick OE gasket.
Do hook up the mechanical choke and the electric assist.
Retune the entire engine (distributor timing as well) when your done with the carb.

Sorry, but no. The 400 is a low deck B block. The 440 is a tall deck RB.

Oh ok well sorry about the confusion. I had the guy at the local napa run the manifold gaskets for the 400 and the 440 he said they had the same part number just different valley pans. If this is in fact true how could they be an inch different in size? unless of course the part number is for RTV lol. Thanks for the info guys, guess I'll just have to find another way to open up the 2 barrel.

Cause the gaskets that he's talking about are separate from the valley pan. You can get fiber gaskets that go on the top and bottom of the valley pan and between the intake and heads. Which those work on b or rb engines but the valley pans aren't the same.

on chrysler V8s. the brackets, cable and ALL the stuff in the cab area are different from the 2bbl to 4 bbl. so you must swap ALL those parts. if you use 2bbl cable on a 4bbl carb you it can jam the throttle open., cause the 2 bbl cable is to short.. NEW subject:::: all so on big blocks at the front end of the manafold. there might be difference in the area that the the a A/C bracket sets. a manifold with a A/c bracket might be machined where the bracket sets. a non-A/C bracket mansfold may not let the A/C bracket set right. i only had this trouble one time. iam not sure this is allways a trouble. but check it out for your self.

bullshit. right now I have 2 cars that were originally 2 barrel cars and both now have 4 barrels , and I am using the same 2 barrel brackets and throttle cables. they DO IN FACT open the secondaries completely open. if yours are jamming wide open perhaps you should use a return spring :sign3:

if you are into spending the cash, i'm pretty sure an RB intake can be cut at a machine shop, about .080 on each side and gasket matched to fit a B.

So what I'm getting out of this is the 440 manifold ain't gonna happen. So does anybody have or know where I can get a 4 barrel manifold for my 400?

they are readily available through summit, jegs etc etc. run a want add here for one and use the search function in the mechanical parts for sale. I see them for sale from time to time. by the time you pay someone to machine a 440 intake down you could have bought the right one

TO: 73AbodEE i NEVER had one jam cause i know the RIGHT way to do it. just cause you bolted it up. doesnt mean thats the way chrysler did it. go find the parts books and look up the part numbers. when yours jams open dont call me. i normal dont talk to people like this BUT ill make an exception for you. if you knowitall kids had any brains you would be .dangerous. I AM DONE WITH THIS SITE. PLEASE HOLD TOUR BREATH TILL I COME BACK.

:thebirdm: don't let the door hit you in the ***

uhmm....well, in my personal experience (I'm sure its worked for others but not with my particular vehicle) my Chrysler 400/727 setup wouldn't work switching from a Holley 2210 to a TQ, kickdown rod was way too short (I had a 1 piece rod) and the bracket was 2 inches too far toward the center of the engine, but the cable worked fine. other than those 2 things, worked like a charm. i also gained mileage too, that i was pretty stoked about.

all I had to do was extend my kickdown rod. the rest worked like a charm

you lucky dog! I've never ran an Eddie but I noticed my holleys don't stick out to the side nearly as far as my TQ's did.....are eddies narrower by chance?

Ok I went ahead and bought a TM6 from a fellow member, so now the question is what carb should I look to put on it. Budget is SUPER tight on this one guys I'm mainly looking for something to give me a little more power than that old 2 barrel. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I would go with either a 600 holley, a carter 1405 AFB, or a carter 650 AVS. what is super tight budget? I can help you find one but I need a price range

they are if you don't use the mopar linkage adapter , which I never use just so my kickdown and throttle cable line up. I know it sounds *** backwards, but that just way my stuff is set up.

Well I'm really hoping to pick something up on the super cheap or possibly do some trading. I would say price range for the carb with everything I need to hook it up and go would be around $100.

what do you have to trade? any centerlines? the reason I ask is I have a brand new eddy 1407 and a pretty new holley 600 single feed. no 625's though. nothing really in the 100$ range.
