With all the motorheads on here I'm sure I can get an answer to this question. I'm looking for a good sand blasting cabinet, not a cheap table top from Summit, I tried one of those POS. And not a huge comercial one that you can put a whole engine block in the requires a 3 stage comp. to keep up with. Just one that I can do parts in like A-arms,pullies,oil pan, etc. Any suggestions?

I built my own, if you have a welder, I bought some 4'x8' sheet metal and square tubing, i've been using it for 8 years or so. I could take some pictures if you would like.

I would like some pics.. Could it be made from plywood?

I actually own that cabinet and its a very good one for the money....
just hook up a shop vac for the media return and place a bucket under the catch and you are good to go...

I did see that one and was hoping someone had first hand experience with it. Can you post a picture of how you hooked up the vac. I knew you guys wouldn't let me down.

I have been eyeballing one of these. I figure it's cheap but it should work for what I need.

On sale right now for 209.00

I have one of these also it isn't too bad after I hooked up the shop vac to it. I put 4 speaker magnets on the inside funnels to catch the metallic debris to save the media a little longer. that works GREAT! I also got a much better gun than the stocker that comes with the HF unit (it's junk compared to almost any other SB gun), I think I purchased it here tptools.com
and the link to the s25 gun

I got the medium but could have used the small one also. since I have an eaton (real 5 hp baldor motor)compressor that flows 18cfm @ 125 psi and do mostly glass beading and very little silicate or slag blasting and use a lot lower psi to clean things up with.

I have the harbor freight one got it on sale for the $209. Couldn't be happier. Just be sure when you assemble it there is not a nut stuck inside the gun. Don't ask me how I know.

I have the 850 T or the 960 T. I'm at work in Kuwait so I can't go out to my garage and look. lol I have put a foot control on it and rebuilt the vacuum.

I have pretty much the same cabinet as shown here from Princess auto ( Canada) . Seal the seams with silicone when building and it does a pretty decent job . for the cost .

OK all, I also have the same cabinet that might have come from Harbor Freight, but I bought it from a nice lady who lost her husband to cancer. It was never used when I got it. Anyway, heres my firsthand experience with it....

The light setup is way wimpy, and went on the fritz almost immedietly. It has a transformer and a cheesy switch setup that despite my repeated attempts at repair, I had to ditch because I couldn't get any of the parts for it through Harbor Freight. I replaced it with a flourescent trouble light that I now have to plug in everytime I use it. (gonna make a switch someday)

Next, I would advise against running a shop vac with it as a shop vac simply cant run continuously and suck fine dust like the sandblaster puts out. It killed my shop vac in a smoky meltdown after about 2 weeks of off and on use at about 15 minute intervals. Pictured is my current setup of an industrial extraction fan sitting on a trashcan and exiting out through a dryer vent to the outside. I had a fine particle bag inside the can, but with the bag, the fan can't pull enough air through the small (2")portal that the cabinet comes with. It works great without the bag and minimal dust comes out of the vent.

The gun also was a crappy piece right out of the box and was a continuing source of maintenance. The trigger would stop allowing air to draw enough volume to suck up the sand and would give a little "pock" sound and quit working. I bought a Campbell-Housfeld gun from Tractor Supply for $20.00 and it has been working nicely ever since!!

I have a 3hp industrial compressor and it keeps up alright, but they recommend a 5hp, which would have no problem keeping up. I usually take a break after about 10 minutes anyway cause it strains my back and arms to constantly look through the window and my hand gets tired because the gun it comes with (and my replacement) is trigger operated. A pedal switch would be superior!

The door seal started to leak and fall off almost immedietly and you have to pound on the door to knock the sand off the inside detail of the door or it dumps sand on the floor when you open it!!

All in all, its a decent cabinet for what I paid ($100), but I dont know if I would pay $209 for it. Next time I'll step up to the $700 level and buy a real cabinet with its own evac system, foot switch and larger cabinet area!! This cabinet is alright for smaller parts that aren't too crusty, but not for rims, which would take forever to do!!

JMO all, but it's an informed one!! Geof

I was using a shop vac hooked up to a case trimmer when I was trimming .223 cases, had about 7500 of them I wanted to trim. Word of advise, don't ever run a shop vac long enough to cook it inside your house, it takes forever and a day to get rid of the smell.....I would be leery of using one with a blaster...

I have the HF version that's similar, but taller, and with a shallower hopper.

It does what I need it to do. If you're creative, it can hold an intake.

Agree about the door dumping media. Agree about crappy gun.

...and it's all about the CFM of the compressor, not the PSI, tank size, or HP.

I have an 8.5 CFM Emglo/DeWalt, which will do small parts at 2-3 min intervals, but I'd never want to do anything larger than a bracket.

I also have a 32 CFM Bel-Air that has run continuous for almost an hour while blasting roofs, hoods and quarters (carefully).

I just buy the cheap Walmart shop vac that are 5 gallon when they quit working I just return it. Lol

On the subject of sandblasting, do a search on the different medias, and their health risks.
Could save your life.
Cheers
