Can a LongTail 833 tranny be used in an A-body??

So i have an 833 tranny i bought for my 71 demon. I was sure that i could use it on my abody just had to do some modifications. If so what are they? Pls help im trying to get this puppy running by next month for my bday :newb:
 
yep with some mods, I ran one in my duster for a few years before doing the magnum 360/46RE.

An adapter plate and shortend drive shaft are needed.
 
what sort of an adapter plate would i have to use and where would i put it? sorry for all the questions btw
 
Does the transmission have two mounting pads for the shifter? If so, you are good. You will need to grind down the front pad to clear the tunnel framing. The rear mounting pad you would use with a home made adapter pad to mount the shifter to. There is another thread on this with a link to a web page that had a drawing of what to make for an adapter. Good luck


By the way, I am using one of those transmissions in my car, so it is doable.

Do a search, this same question came up the other day. I think there are plans/ details over at big block dart . com
 
You dont have to use an adapter if you dont care for the factory center console and have buckets seats,

True, but then you'll also have to fabricate your own 4 speed transmission hump, as the rear mounting location will put the shifter well behind the shifter opening on an A-body 4 speed hump.

And you're still stuck with grinding down the front shifter mount and shortening the driveshaft.

Yeap true that, not that complicated i will do it in my dart, as i need to do a custom driveshaft anyways and using a V-Gate shifter!:D
