I am upgrading my 340 with Edelbrock (60779) heads and have started to look at rocker arms. I am surprised at how expensive they are.

Seems like you have expensive...then you have Chinese...not much middle ground...and I don't want to cheap out on these to have them wind up in pieces inside my engine.

I have a lead on some Comp Cams Pro Magnum roller tip rockers and some Hughes Engineering Aluminum rockers for about the same price.

Both sets claim to be lightly used for one season of driving.

Is one brand better than the other? Quality? Lift accuracy?

Are the Crane Gold Race rocker arms any better?

I found a set of those on the internet...in the same price range...but the seller hasn't bothered to reply.

Thanks in advance.

Paul

Brian (OU812) recommended using PRW 1.6 ratio rockers for my 60779 heads.

i believe the pro magnums are a stainless rocker arm. i would feel better about a used set of steels then aluminum.

Hughes rockers are pretty nice. So are their shafts and hold downs. I have a set of 1.6s with my Voodoo 60434 cam and associated 1.4x" springs.

My car is just a knock around town / going for ice cream car.

I am looking at the Voodoo 60403 cam for it...

Hydraulic. The most awesome 268 cam ever produced! Out-powers all others! This High Performance street cam likes 2400 RPM stall, 700 cfm carb, dual plane intake and headers. Makes un-equaled power to 6200 RPM with proper valve springs. Very strong cam with great street manners.

  • Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 268/276
  • Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 226/234
  • Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .494/.513
  • LSA/ICL: 110/106
  • Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
  • RPM Range: 1800-6200
Or maybe the Voodoo 60404...
Hydraulic. Hot Street cam, likes 2800 converter, Hi-Rise type dual plane intake with 750cfm carb, headers, 10:1 compression and 3.73 gears. Likes up to 200HP nitrous.

  • Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 276/284
  • Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 234/242
  • Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .513/.533
  • LSA/ICL: 110/106
  • Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd
  • RPM Range: 2200-640

Either rocker would work for your combo. If you had a roller cam with high spring pressure things would be different, but for your combo, either is fine.

paul, I have a complete set of crane 1.5 gold race rockers with shafts and hold downs I'd sell for $250 OBO if you interested.

I apologize also, my first cup of coffee hadn't kicked in yet this morning!!

Most of the time we like to see members become active and have a little higher post counts before they start hocking their parts. Lots of people getting burnt these days buying parts off the internet, some even from older established members.

Like I said originally, welcome to FABO. Make yourself at home.

Sorry, sold them to paul. Did see a set on e-bay for cheap this week. always looking to buy or sell parts though, what else to you need.

Paul

I had MAJOR issues with a set of these. They broke adjusters like nobodys buisiness. They didn't hold the lash very well either.

Currently runnig Harland sharps, set lash once per year. No issues.
