Ok. You might mention this thread to him and see if he needs them. I've seen him post a lot but didn't realize he was a young gun.
I told him

Ok here's what I've found so far, for a young or not so young gun, or just someone needy. You just pay shipping. Some are new, some rusty, craftsman, s-k, husky. A couple taiwan/no marking but seem to feel pretty good quality.
SOCKETS
3/8 drive..unless noted..
3 ea 3/8..2 ea 3/8 deep
5 ea 7/16...1 ea 7/16 deep...1 ea 7/16 1/4 drive
5 ea 1/2..1ea 1/2 deep..1 ea 1/2 1/4 drive
4 ea 9/16
1 ea 5/8
3 ea 5/8 spark plug
1 ea 11/16..2 ea 11/16 deep
1 ea 3/4..1/2 drive
1 ea 7/8..1/2 drive
1 ea 15/16..1/2 drive
Wrenches....small ones are craftsman or another brand marked usa. Some of the larger ones marked drop forged.
SMALL ONES
5/32-7/16 open/box set (7pc set)
2 ea 9/32-5/16
1 ea 7/32-15/64
1 ea 15/64-1/4
Larger set
1/4-11/16 (7 wrenches)
A pair of channel locks.

The small wrench set I'd like to give away as a set. I've got some metrics I'll post up when I get a chance.
Dang you would post that and me with no moneys to ship lol

Hey guys, y'all are some great people. I'm 20 and think this is a really cool thing. I work for a rather large engine shop, don't have any tools, and can't afford to buy new ones since I support myself and am paying for college. Right now I use other peoples tools and they're getting after me about getting my own tool box. If y'all have any SAE tools or any type of tools that would help in a race engine shop, I'd surely take it off your hands for shipping or maybe a few bucks and shipping. So far I've been right lucky in motorsports but I'm just getting started.

Thanks,
Forrest

Not sure if the temp. gun I have would be useful in an engine shop but I'd think the mic would be. Nobody has asked for it so your welcome to it if you want it. You can have the temp gun too if you think you could use it. They'll both fit in a small flat rate box so it'd be $6 total for both, or if you just want the mic it'd be $6

BTW: what do you do there?

I don't think I need the temp gun, but the mic definitely would be useful. Do you have paypal?. I mainly work in the teardown department taking engines apart as they come in and cleaning them. I also put engines on and take them off the dyno, machine parts, and rebuild oil pumps and stuff like that. The guys at the shop are really great too and are teaching me to run the dynos and spintron, the correct way to build engines, and machining and whatever else they can.

PCD, I could use all of what you have posted. If the 5/16-9/16 size sockets are 12 point that'd be a plus, but I could use them all either at work or on my car and truck. I will have to buy a lot from mac and snapon (or ebay) when I bring in my box, but these will definitely help start me out.

Dart Doc, What would you like to have? I don't want to take them all if someone else wants or needs some.

If any of y'all are ever passing through Charlotte, NC, I'd be happy to take you to lunch and you have a place to stay if you are spending the night in the area.

Falston, should be able to put everything in a small flat rate box. On the sockets where I have 4 or 5 of ea I'll send you 2 of ea that way there if anyone else needs anything I still have some avail. I'll pm you when I get to seperating them.

Thanks! No rush at all, take your time. Good Idea on the sockets, I hope someone else can use them.

Man I would have killed for a job like yours when I was your age. Your a lucky man

Well I wanted the wrenches, the 1/4" up, but I'm passing to falston if he wants em. He's making a living on his tools, I'm not.

Let Matt have the wrenches, I'll just take the sockets. Thanks Tracy! I sent shipping money. I love my job and the opportunities that come with it. I've learned a ton and enjoy every second of it. We're actually a very small engine shop for our output. We build 3-5 engines a week with about 9 guys.

Matt, did some more digging, managed to come up with these wrenches. They're not brand name, say drop forged/India. All the sizes covered are 3/8, 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, 5/8, 11/16, 19/32, and 3/4. The real small set appear to be stamped out. They cover from 7/32 to 7/16.

I also found a pair of strippers/crimpers if someone needs them.

Wow! How did I miss this good thread to help our youngguns , You all are what
makes this site what it is today .

I really appreciate y'all's help and hope I can repay you someday. I know I'm pretty lucky to be in the situation I'm in and I'll be passing my old tools along as I upgrade in the future.

Awesome thread! I know 29 isn't really a young gun but if someone wanted to send me a pickle fork I wouldn't object lol had to Barrow them three times from parts store. No big deal though I can buy some next time I get cash. College just soaks up the cash fast.
