Just redid The #match 340 in my dads 72 Duster
1st run after ring break in and look over blew the right side front freeze plug right out of the block with a heavier acceration.
Got it home and installed another brand new one
took it out got on it and blew it again
Can anyone help us out?
They fit super good
1st rebuild he is the original owner
Thanks in advance

If the fit is good, i'd spread a little sealer....I used #2 Permatex.......and if you can get at it, stake it with a pointed punch/chisel.

Do you think there's excessive system pressure for some reason? I doubt it if that's the only one popping or leaking.

Are you installing them dry or with permatex #2? Brass or steel plug?

if you used silicone it acts as a lube not a sealer, it will never seal and hold... always use a high tack of sorts...
clean the hole with some 80 grit of flapper disc to clean the pores of the metal...

I've never once had trouble with silicone on a frost plug....................uh excuse me, CORE plugs

How are you driving them in? If you are driving INSIDE the cup rather than the edges, this might tend to pull the sides inward

Now in the '70's I had a machine shop go through a 440 block and they CLAIMED that one? plug hole was OVERSIZED, but that is a distant memory, so, don'know............

Let the sealant cure at least 24 hrs before adding any coolant.

if all else fails, use the air pressure type freeze plug
(looks like a grenade) just place it in and air it up to the proper psi..
if they are good enough for Nascar and NHRA in a pinch..

Thanks Guys much appreciated
Using steel plug and permatex
Srely let it cure more than 24 hours
I'm diggin the green loctite idea I have had great luck with it locking bearing races in the past
I drive them in by the very outside with a steer cone not the center
Thanks,
Mike

Well used new steel plug and used the green loctite
So far so good
He proboly put 200 or so miles on it since
Thanks everone for the suggestions
