So a buddy of mine saw my 74 Swinger with the 318 in it today and said that he had a couple of AMC V8s sitting around if I was interested. He said he has a 360 from an 87 Wagoneer and a 401. I am just curious if either of these would fit.
Forum?

I guess if you have enough time, money, skill, determination, tools, a welder/ torch/ and plama cutter, you can put "anything" into "anything."

Hell people have put aircraft engines into cars....................

Radial powered Goggomobil

Merlin powered 55 Chev

or a hemi powered MiniCooper

However,................a 360 AMC is NOT the same as a 360 Mopar.

That Mini is insane, and the last line tells me everything I need to know.

AMC did use torqueflite transmissions but the bellhousing pattern is different. Probobly cost even more than mopar parts prices to soup up an AMC engine, but Indy cylinder head has stuff for the AMC engines. Have fun!

I believe the starter is on the opposite site, as well Torqueflites were actually made for several different engines, AMC, IHC, and GM? Jeep and "Postal Jeep" setups

67Dart273 hit the nail on the head about having enough time, money, skill, determination, tools, a welder/ torch/ and plama cutter, you can put "anything" into "anything." IMO if you're not a welder/fabricator type, having to pay someone to make the mounts can gobble up the savings of the "free" AMC motors.

The AMC motors make good power and torque when leaned on. If, however, you want to turn left and right as well as go straight, they have a problem. They run into a situation where they starve for oil because it is all in the upper end. Penske went through a bunch of engines in the 1970 TransAm season figuring out that the upper end needs an oil scavenge system.

IMO build a Mopar engine for your car. Not for the sake of originality, but for something that is reliable and straight forward. After all, Mopar put every engine it mass-produced in the time frame in the A-body. It's just a matter of finding the parts or substitutions to do the job.

HERE's a true story about the "360 confusion".

Went over to Spokane to look at and buy a Mopar 360 core engine TF transmission. I don't remember if the ad SAID it was a Mopar, but there was a PHOTO of the engine/ trans

Seller told me a guy had driven up from the "Silver Valley" --about 80 miles one way-- to look at it and told him "it looked different."

Turned out the buyer was looking for a FORD 360!!!!
