whats wrong with this handle .......they are both mopar and have the same part number but the one on top has a different angle that wont work and coarse threads for the shifter ball.

is this some hillbilly-ized handle or what could have happened here .....the one on top is the problem child IMO .....the bottom one was in my demon.

they have the same part Number !!!

I cant expalain the same part numbers.
But one looks like it is for a bench seat car and the other for bucket seats.

Is the part number on the flat part.
If so that is probably the part number/casting number of just that part before the handle was attached.

the part number is 7036 and its on the flat part stamped in each one they are both same number

Stamping numbers are what they are. Several radiators will have 38038 stamped in their upper tank and another part number too.The part number identifys core row count, year model, etc..

Simple. One of them was in a car owned by Dr. Bruce Banner.

Maybe someone urked him in traffic?

I agree with RedFish and it may also mean the same thing that oklacarcollecto suggests. Stamping can sometimes just signify a part of application, but not necessarily all of the application.

There is my old hillbilly-ized handle I heated at the base and bent/leaned it closer to my leg and tapped it because the threads was stripped

Plausible if it looks like it was tampered with Rani :glasses7:

We have WINNER!!!!

I agree with Mike, I wonder if you can get it back now.......:D

My tail shaft does not have a mounting plate for a floor shifter :banghead:

then that means your trans is an A745 ......which is typical for 66 .....you need a later A230 which has a mounting plate for the floor bcoz floor shift 3 speeds became optional later.

that plus the 230 is a lot tougher ....your 745 is a top loader and the 230 is a side loader and looks like a mini 833.

a 230 is beefy .......i can almost bench press a 745 it light as a feather and made for light duty.

I would think you should be able to tell by looking closely at the chrome whether either one has been bent or heated, then bent. I had an old firebird that had an original Hurst shifter handle that was angled towards the driver like that.

Mr. Bill sir, this pic you posted is the ebay pic of the actual handle i have in question here.

i am starting to think it is a GM unit. not sure why it would have the same part number stamped in it but from the research i am doing im finding that GM units historically have coarse threads for the shifter ball.

it dont look heated or bent but more like it was made like that.

i am considering doing the unthinkable.......i am considering ways that i can bend it to suit my application.....im thinking heat and a strong guy and it might still be usable in my dart.

The straight one was only used by a little old lady who only drove her Dart to church on Sunday...the bent one was used by the "Little Old Lady Form Pasadena"...who incidentally went to the same church but was always late!! Mystery solved!! Geof

If it's a factory GM unit you could dump it for enough to get a new one of your choice.

Here's an auction for a GTO shifter that looks similar:

I believe that top handle is for 65-66 a bodies. Same for the one on ebay. I've had a 65 and a 66 dart, both with 4 speeds. Both had this handle. Now, was it correct on these cars? I'm not 100% sure but that is one hell of a coincidence...

I don't know about that. Little old lady from Pasadena drove like a bat out of hell! I'm pretty sure she always made it there ahead of time! 8)

from what i have seen 65 /66 cars are the same handle as later car only different is 65/66 were the bolt on type and the later (68-72) were push in bayonet type
