I'm looking for an A833 to early slant 6 bellhousing

(not sure what all changed over the years...I've got an A833 that I'd like to swap behind the slant 6 in my 3-on-the-tree 1964 Dart Wagon)

Please let me know if you've got something that will work for me.

Thanks,

John

is it an OD or a 1 to 1 four speed?....if its an OD then you need a later model bell like aspen, volare that sort of thing mid to late 70s

if its a regular 4 speed that you need to customize a bit, that combo was very rare from the factory in an a-body so you might still get a later bell and have a spacer made for input shaft bearing retainer.

if its an OD ...its going bolt right in ....if its a 1 to 1 four speed dont plan on it just bolting in without a few showstoppers on the way.

Yep gotta be a little more specific.but i should have what you need

An 833 behind a slant was kind of rare. By the figures I have for 65 Darts, out of all the slant-equipped 65 Darts built, only 1019 had the 833. Unknown as to how many were in 65 Valiants or 64/66 A Bodies. They are out there - got a slant with an 833 from a 65 Valiant sitting in the basement.

OK...more data

The date code on the transmission is 5192 - per the 10000 day calendar converter, that should be a build date of 10/15/1975 (converter here, if you haven't seen it: http://maxwedge.com/articles/10k.php )

So, that should mean it's an OD transmission, but...measuring the front input bearing retainer, it appears to be the 4.807" size, rather than the 5.125 (which I thought all the ODs used?)

Reading here - it appears that I'm looking for the later bell housing, but may need to have a ring machined to match the 4.807" to the 5.125" hole in the 1975-up bell housing:

(Rani, I think this indicates that there were A833's in 1964-1966 Slant 6s as well, and I've seen a few '64-'66 Darts and Valiants on ebay with Slant 6/4 speed, so I think that's a legit factory combo?)

Yep-I have an 833 on an aluminum/6 inland shifter and as far as I can tell it's factory. They are oddballs but never say never.

They are not rare at all. At least not with the OD. Almost every single base model Dodge D150 all through the 80s had the slant and 833 OD combo.
