thin or thick gasket..whats the difference

I bought a 650 Thunder series for this 360 and which gasket is better for it. I have a few of the thin ones and I also have an Edelbrock thick gasket. I think it is an insulator gasket. what is the difference. I have been running a thin one on the 360.
 
The thicker gasket helps insulate the carb from heat to reduce percolation problems.
 
One is thick and one is thin.
 
percolation problems. We talking about a coffee pot Bruce or a gasket. that's what I thought but wanted to know for sure. I am still trying to get in touch with that guy in Dayton on that 904. he has not gotten back with me. I stuck an old 904 that I had laying around behind this 360 and did a few burnouts with it and I think it is slipping some. (junk).

JMO........... Thick is the way to go, shields heat from carb, skinny gasket puts the carb right on top of the intake surface and get's your carb hot...
 
Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I run the thick gasket whenever possible. It helps sheild the carburetor from heat and keep fuel issues down. With this crappola ethanol gas, you need all the help you can get. Something like this along WITH the thick gasket would be good, too. Thin gasket on the intake, shield then thick gasket. At least that's how I would do it.

ok, that is what I will put on this thing once the carb. gets here. thanks for the info guys.
 
You can also use phenolic carb spacers to help insulate carbs from intake manifold heat. Available in both open and 4-hole designs from Summit and others.
 
If you went around the outer vertical side of the thick spacer and changed that flat to look like this VVVVVVVV you nearly triple the exposed surface area. Disapates heat much better. Was a time when some phenolic and aluminum spacers were made this way.
