Cut the end off, reposition it where ya need it, and weld it up. You can even grind the weld down so it can't be seen.
Or put a Hurst in it so it'll actually shift right.
I think cutting with a whiz cutter then reweld with a wire welder would all go under the boot and get the desired effect. Only worry would be strength at the weld.
