I am hooking up this Thunder series Eddy and I was wondering if it would be better to hook the dist. to the manifold vacuum port on this carb. instead of the timed vacuum port. my Duster has it into the timed port but didn't know if it would be better the other way. the only other vacuum I need to hook up is to the vacuum canister and I guess I will hook it that to the other line here. thanks for the info,Bill

At the risk of getting flamed I'm going to say, it depends. It's generally accepted that you would want to use the timed port for your vacuum advance just as the factory did - and that would apply to you too. But, with the right vacuum advance pod and setup, manifold vacuum will work correctly too. Case in point: Don over at FBO sets up his distributors to work with manifold vacuum and I can attest that they work just fine that way.

The general problem with using manifold vacuum with a stock dizzy is that at idle it may actuate the vacuum advance causing erratic idle, 'hunting', and other problems. Save manifold vacuum for your reservoir canister.

X2-------This is where FBO and I part company. I've always used and always liked ported dist. vacuum. It's worked for me.

at the risk of doing it my way, I ALWAYS use the carburetor vacuum port. that's way they came from the factory , that's the way I do it. the only thing I use manifold vacuum for is the power brake booster

thanks, I have the brake booster coming directly out of the back of the intake. I have the canister coming off the manifold port and the dist. off the timed vacuum port. carb. started right up and idles great and has great throttle response. I likey.
