just wondering what is in popular use out there in FABOland

when i was in auto school for painting, i started with a Sharpe Blue cobalt and i used that for a few years with 1.4 tip. i had an extra tip that was 1.2 which seemed to like clear coat ......i would turnthe fluid down and air pressure up with the 1.2 and it would come out really flat but would take longer.

then many cars and and a few years later i started using my cousin's Sata jet. this was supposed to be a high dollar gun and it was also 1.4. i did like the metal cup. seems like it was easier to clean up then the plastic one .....prolly just my imagination though

Now i my current mental state ...i find myself using the $14.99 (with coupon LOL)harbour freight guns LOL They come in 1.4 which seems popular and IMO they do pretty good. when i first started out, we didnt have a harbour freight store locally but if they would have, i would have just used the cheap gun to start out.

i actually like the harbour freight gun bcoz it has a screw on cap, so it stays on when you backwash......also i like that the harbour freight gun has a built in knob to control air pressure. you dont even need a regulator with it .....i usually adjust the air pressure with sound ....you can pretty much hear and see when its right.

what do you guys use out there?

Back when we was doing a lot of rebuilders we used a Binks 2001 as a basecoat gun. As the gun got older it became the primer gun and we put a new 2001 in its place. Clearcoat gun was a HVLP Iwata. We always ran three seperate guns.

If we were using Rust Defender, it had its own special gun that was never used on anything else. When it was done it went in the recycle pile.

It has been a while so this may be way out of date on what they are using now.

cant remember the name but i bought a set off ebay that had a large and small gun. gravity feed. i dont know how well they would work for daily painting, but for no more than i paint, it does a great job.

I painted my Duster with the Harbor Freight gun. It did good by me...

I have Sata jets, Sharpes, and Devilbiss guns. Painting for 30 years you tend to accumulate a lot of spray guns.

I am using John Deere "Blitz Black", it's like a hot rod matte black. A gallon only costs $31. You can get it in spray cans also. Covers really nice and I'm lovin the matte black look. A friend of mine did the quarters and used a spray gun on the quarters in black primer. I did a little bit where he didn't paint. And you can't see any difference. Here is more info on the paint if any one is interested. http://blitzblack.com/

just painted my work truck yesterday I started with a low cost HVLP could not get it to lay a good line so I want to Harbor Freight and bought a sipfon gun for automotive use it was better but if I was doing something nice I would buy a nice devilbliss or something along that line.

I used to use Satajet's but a few years they changed their gun design, and I didn't care for it. So I switched to Iwata LPH-400 and Iwata Supernova. All my guns have 1.3 tips.
I love them!!

Binks Mach one(don't make anymore)
Devilbiss with 2.2 tip (don't use anymore)
PowerMate 1.4 and 0.8 touchup cheap and works good
All four are HVLP. Used a SATA a few times. When spraying special effects with a 1.2 tip, you still need to cut back fluid flow. I really like the Binks, but the thing is a hog for air, something like 13.5 SCFM at 60lb air pressure. Would like to get a different air cap that would cut back on the SCFM with no loss of atomization. Oh, I am not an expert, just do a lot of spraying for my job. Spray out of paint sample I make.

3M makes a cup and bladder system for spraying. Very handy to use, when finished just toss the bladder in the trash,( figuratively speaking).

I am kinda old school I really like a Sharpe 775.
But I have not painted professonally for 15 yrs, I know there are better guns out there.

I've used and have most all spray guns, Sata, Iwata, Binks and Devilbiss, but with different paints and different activities I find it best to have each gun for something. I do Bikes with a Sata Mini Jet I've had maybe 25 years

I use the harbor freight guns for primer. But at 14.99 your over paying find the coupons they are everywhere for $9.99. You can also order a 1.8 tip from them. I may use them once or twice then toss them. Not hardly worth the laqure thinner to clean them up. Ive used them for topcoat and been ok too.

cheap bought them at Lowes. had a freind that paints cars set them and they work just fine

Harbor Freight purple, unknown touch up gun. My favorites,Blinks 7,Sharpe Cobalt 1.4 tip,Sata model 2.0 tip. Model unknown.

Air Force professional series HVLP Model AF7003 . Bought it in 1995 , and will use it until I can't see to paint anymore .
