why do they all have to be finished

-
X about 15. Mine has been a work in progress since I started working on it 6 years ago. I'm getting closer to taking it apart for paint. I'm getting tired of being the only one at the car show without paint. LOL

(Needs bigger tires on the back)

Here's a little gem I picked up from a little old lady original owner. Stored out here in the desert with cardboard in the windows since '83! 38,000 orig. miles and the perfect patina! Slapped some rallys on and done (and a heater core/belts/hoses too).

mine might look like a show car to most but nobody drives there car further .I'm not real cool about the paint getting hacked but I all over the constant work in progress for everything else , just the paint cost way too much to not be paranoid .

I don't have the money or skill to do a perfect car but will do my best to make ME happy with it.I enjoy looking at the perfect cars but enjoy the work in progress car just as much.

Nice find.

I don't know Rani. I always consider mine a driver. You may not, but I drive it. Granted it is only a couple times a week in the summer, but at 9 mpg and burning high test, it gets a little expensive to use it as a daily driver.

i may out of line with this but.......am i the only one who enjoys the raw unrestored mopar?

the running project....maybe im strange but i kinda enjoy running cars that are in need of work.....the kind that you wont be upset if it gets a scratch or two lol

running but faded paint maybe some good seat cores but with tattered covers.

good running but greasy engine with original paint

cracked dash pad lol

im not talking about a total basket case but a complete functional original that needs work to be perfect...

am i the only one lol or maybe i just need to marry Joe Dirt LOL

i call some of my cars my Rani Dirt cars anyway

To me ...sometimes finished show cars are just boring :sleepy1:

I dont plan to completely finish my barracuda. Oh the interior i want looking like new, and i really hate working on rusty crusty stuff, so all my suspension stuff will be clean and repainted. If you have it apart to repair or rebuild it, why not pop it in the blast.cabinet,.and shoot some rattle.can primer n paint on it. I plan on painting the engine compartment, and the engine once i rebuild it.

Other than the outside being straight, its gonna ride with grey primer, with nice grilles, chrome bumpers, and black steelies. Someday i may paint it , but im waiting for AMD to make notchback coupe "full" quarters for it, that connect with the C pillar in the roof. So for now thd bodywork in the rear quarters is temporary why not ride in primer.

Really dont like working on rusty crusty stuff,.must be my OCD. i prefer works.in progress to finished rides tho.

The other thing is- are they ever really finished? I for one hope that mine is never finished as I would get bored with it and sell it. JMO

I went that route with my hemi coronet and my hemi cuda... and i couldnt enjoy them. I drove them more than most people drive hemis but not as much as i would have liked to. When i built my superbee i took a different approach, i wanted to drive it! So, radials, quick ratio steering, graphite suspension, a nice clean street restoration... and i drove the crap out of it. Since that car, i have built every car that way.

Exactly my plan. My car is far from a valuable numbers matching car. It's a great car with great history but I plan on making what I want out of it and getting use out of it

Hey just curious, what color is that? Looks like a light green and I'm interested in everything green :)

I agree.
All the slanty guys may get mad at me for this but my cuda was a slank sick 3 on the tree, bench seat, with manual everything, 9" itty bitty , drums, and small bolt pattern pizza cutter rims. LOL. The only options it had were a vacuum gage and trip odometer. Bought it for the body shell, and clutch pedal setup since im a stick shift junkie. Im building it the way i want. Now maybe if it was a formula S 383 4 speed, id think differently about it.

I want it to be fun, fast, handle and brake well.

sounds like it started life like most of mine. numbers schnumbers.....build what you want ...thats exactly what im talking about.

i had a 70 cuda ....real U-code 440 car # car and after i painted it ....the fun stopped. :sleepy1: so i sold it and paid off some student loans and bought two more Joe Dirt cars to replace it and never looked back.

i have even big block swapped cars before and left the 9 inch slanty drums (sharpens driving skills lol)

sometimes you have to run what you brung .....its easy to take them apart and dream the project away to where its not feasable to ever go back together. ( i have done that before)

Exactly..... If I bought a 68 gts numbers matching original car that car deserves to be left alone, still driven but left alone. My car has had 3 owners my father in law, the guy he sold it to in 73, and me when I bought it last September. It had a "restoration" in the 80's with lots of velvet PUKE, so with the history I had to have the car but all the original stuff minus the drive train is long gone so why not make a sweet driver out of it, the history is still there and it's still a small block 65 dart vert!

The 1966 paint code is ZZ1 (gold poly metallic) It's kinda gold, kinda Silver, and kinda green. What you see in the photo is the original polyurethane enamel covered with lacquer and sun faded for many years. I have tried buffing but the paint is dead. Young guns have asked me how I did the paint because it looks like a rat rod! Look closely at the under hood paint. That's the original color. LOL

Cool. If it's not rusting, nice to leave it as is.

You're gonna love this '68 charger I am picking up Sunday. Plan is make it run and drive (ran when parked) and drive the wheels off it while doing the body work.

Yeah, I am a big fan of the rolling project - the Brick has been my daily since I bought it, but I do, from time to time, take it off the road to do something major. But if I can't drive it once in a while, I get a little agitated at life.....The goal is to plan the projects to work around when I need it, although that never seems to go according to plan.

I believe in this 100%. Drive them or don't bother owning them...
I recently talked to a guy with a super nice '70 road runner and he stated that it is far more fun to drive the car around than to stay put at a show and play armchair police. Couldn't agree more. Same with numbers cars. While I appreciate the 340 cars, I prefer to do a base model mopar my way. Have more fun than worrying about correctness....

Originals, beaters, modifieds are all cool...but often the beaters have a story. None of mine are done because everyone knows this game costs. They will never be perfect. I buy basket cases and save them, the ones nobody wants. Whatever condition the car is in, drive it!
