Everyone has done something bone head, especially being a newbie, it happens. At least he's interested in worthwhile hobbies and trying to apply himself, I know a lot of folks his age that are completely worthless. Oh, but they look good!
 
The first problem is it's a chevy. If it was a 340 it probably wouldn't have happened.........LOL
