Hey guys and gals, I found a drive shaft in my garage that measures approx 47" cap to cap. The ends are approx 3.5". I think this will fit my 71 dart, 360, 904, 8.75 rear. Any thoughts?

usually the driveshaft are measured center to center on the u joint caps....

I am going to have a new driveshaft for our 71 Dart 360/904/8.3/4 later this week...

just measure the driveshaft for our 71 dart 360/904/8.75....it is 52.375 inches from center of u joint to u joint....

47 inches is too short for that combo...my demon with same drivetrain is 48.750...and the 71 dart has a 3 inch longer wheel base.

Some help maybe: [ame]http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/upload2/4563759-PartNoDriveshafts.pdf[/ame]

Lengths really are all over the place.
A member was going to create a chart and found it wasn't going to be simple.
I did stumble across an intechange once.. I had put a 318 and 727 from a tradesman van under our first 67 notch along with its original 7.25 rear. If my memory serves, the shaft I had made was 49 inches C<->C. When I put it up for sale the buyer had a 4 speed and 8.75 rear. My shaft length fit his combo.

whats the length of a driveshaft that has a 8 1/4 rear in it and has 440/727 in it? i have a 71 dart

Engine size does not matter...what matter is the trans and rear end...no matter what size the engine..the transmission cross member places the rear of the trans in the same place for a given transmission.

so a 340/360 with a 727 and 8 1/4 would have the same driveshaft length as a 440/727/8 1/4. as long as it is the same car....
