Ok guys and gals, this is my first thread so please be patient with me.
The patient:
1972 Plymouth Duster
318 la
stock engine. edlebrock performer intake. holley 600 vs. and headers are the upgrades

So here's my plans, I want to go efi. The holley just doesn't work the way I want it to. I've come up with a couple of different ways to do this.

Option 1:
Keep the 318 with stock bottom end. Edlebrock allum magum heads(to help bring compression up), thin mr gasket head gaskets(to help with compression). hughes air gap efi intake. holley hp/avenger efi mpfi.

Option 2:
I own a 99 ram with 5.9 magnum and blown transmission. This could be donated to the Duster. Completely stock to begin with, but it will get upgrades eventually.

So that's my thoughts, now what's yours? Which way would you go?

 and rebuild the ram trans with a shift kit

Option 2 also, use the 904 with it. The Ram trans is a O/D and will take a lot of mods to get it in the car.

The weak part about the magnum motors are that the heads are pretty much guaranteed to be cracked between the seats. If you used those aluminum heads on the 5.9 you would be pretty happy I think.

I've always heard they're hard to find without cracks, but never knew where they cracked until mow

Option 2 will make better (more usable) power than the 318 for a lot less $$. Use the trans you have. Replace the oil pan & pickup, timing cover, and intake - add a fuel pump eccentric, and the distributor, plus the 5.9L Magnum flex plate and the Magnum truck manifolds and go have fun.
