Over the years I have purchased 6 screwdriver sets.........and I only have 1 of each size of the Phillips head. It is like they are growing feet & walking away. I do not loan stuff out to people. Not the swiftest at putting tools back when I am done with something but still. Even bought a set of the day glow handled ones hoping that I would not be able to lose them.......but I did......:banghead:

i have the same prob. i went to the local hardware store and bought 10 of the .99 phillips head screw drivers. now i have them everywhere. if i loose it or break it its only a buck.

I've have so many tools on my work bench I can never find a thing. So I take a break and put all the tools away. Then as soon as you are ready to get back to work...the first tool you need is not there because you just put it up. Go figure.

I bought some cheap screwdrivers with bright orange day-glow handles so I could spot them easier. Sure enough a number of years have past and I cannot find them all.

Step one: Make an indelible home (That means you can't confuse that home with anything else) for every single item. Paint outlines, foam cutouts, organizer trays, whatever.
Then, start putting your tools away when you're done! This step is critical. If you put them away while you're using them, then they can't get far from where where you.

See an empty home while you're putting your tools away? Go on a manhunt until you find him. No Marine left behind.

I noticed that I don't lose tools when I buy expensive ones. I think it's like cheap sunglasses.....no respect.

I just accept that I'll be buying a full set of screwdrivers every 3 years or so. But I bought some Snap-On 3/8" socket extensions about 15 years ago, and I've never lost one of 'em!

I hear ya Doug. I was just thinking I need to go to Sears to get another set because I'm now down to about 6 from the last time I bought a 25 piece set. I don't loan out and always clean up at the end of the day... I don't get it.....

Maybe, when I die, I'll get to see every screwdriver, pocket knife and fishing lure I've lost over my lifetime. That, my friend, would be heaven....

I've never heard of the day glow,is that just a bright colored handle?I use alot and lose alot of what i call tweakin screw drivers, very small tip that I use at work.If you want to talk about the best brand, then I'll have to go with Klien.I don't know if you have any kids but thats usually where mine went.

I have about 2 complete set of craftsman screwdrivers.
I have one set hanging on the wall, with one of every size.
The other is in the tool box in the other garage "if" I get in a bind.
If the tool is not there when I am done working on it I will find it before shutting the garage light off.
This goes for everything sockets, rachets etc.
It is just being orginized. I have to because my shop space is very tight.

And when you die, you'll need them why? :D

Most of the time it's because my son "borrowed" a tool. I have a hard time finding a good phillips, even my craftsman aren't great. Anything cheaper dosen't seem to fit right or rounds the tips, and I can't afford snap on.

I don't have issues with screwdrivers. It's the 1/2 deep wall sockets. And normally, once I run out and buy a new one. I find the one I lost.

Case in point, I apparently left one on the Cuda when I tossed in the HEI. Drove over to my grand dads and showed it to him. Couldn't find it for a year, bought a new one. A week later he brought it over and said he just found it in the street... ARGGGG

@Sireland67 I do the same thing unless I'm in the middle of a job. Clean them up and everything. It's just those jobs that are 2-3 day jobs.

I still have the sunglasses I bought when I first moved to AZ in 93. I bought a bent handle flex head Snap On ratchet in high school, have not lost it yet. I am good at losing hammers.....but for every one I lose I find one on the road.

Never have lost a knife, still have the first one I ever bought as well as several others. Used to work with a guy that sold knifes. Used to sell them to me at cost. Got Ernie 2 full sets of Henckels for less than retail on one set.
I dropped a wrench down into the fender on a Regal I had years ago. Mom got in an accident with it about 12 years later. Friends body shop found the wrench and convinced the Snap On guy to replace it.
Never been a fisherman, that is not to say I have not lost friends equipment. Wish I had a video of when I tried to get a lure out of a tree and fell into a pond....

No kids. One of my dogs did steal a couple of screwdrivers years ago. Still have them, bit chewed up......they match the claw hammer he lifted out of the tool box and munched on a bit....

Another funny guy....organized.....ha ha ha you funny........

My wife has offered to finish arranging my tool box. I have the drawers labeled, sockets on rails etc but it is still a bomb zone. Last time the lid was shut was when it came off the rental truck when we moved. I have never been very organized. At least I am not a pack rat like my Dad was......

Phillips screw drivers are actually robotic homing corn dogs. So, if you leave them unattended for a long time, they just haul *** out the garage door, back to their place of origin.

Also whiskey does this same thing when you aren't looking as well.

Guy's like you keep me in business! LOL

strange how things reappear like that. suppose that is how i ended up with a whole drawer full of "spare" wrenches?

this would explain the odd little prints in my driveway.....

you're welcome.......

very good point Sir......i was really hoping that my lack of organization was just a result of never having enough time on my hands because i was working.......could not have been more wrong, seems like it has gotten worse. thing that makes me chuckle is i use a cart to hold any tools i am using while working on something. it would take next to no effort to wheel it back to the tool box and put everything away but i just can't seem to force myself into doing it.....

I lost a hammer once, and gave the kids a good dressing down for losing it. Had to go out and buy another one. About a year later, I found the one that was lost, right in the place where I had hidden it, so the kids couldn't find it and lose it.:wack:

Did you ever tell them?

It's like going to sleep knowing that everything is running right that sits in the garage. You're not going to drive them right then but man it feels good, lol.

LOL, I know that feeling all too well. It's like when I finally get all the leaks fixed on my FSJ, I know it's only a puddle away from being back to normal. :D
