I like sleepers and when I finally get a 360 for my 68 Barracuda, I plan to put a 318 Four Barrel pie tin on the air cleaner and tell everyone its a 318. Considering if all goes well it will have headers, aluminum intake, maybe aluminum heads and all, will I be able to pass it off as a 318? I guess what I'm asking is, will there anything that would jump out right away and say 360? and ruin my little scheme?

Unless somebody spies the counter weighted balancer, I would say you could pass it off.

Put a balancer on that has a weight on the backside...

Well, if someone wants to spend 10 seconds bending down and reading the block no......................

.............and I'm one of em, LOL

Tell em its a 273!~

Most will never know. But why bother if you are putting alum heads and all on it. Just looks like you dumped a ton of money into a 318. Its only really worth it if it looks pretty much all stock in my opinion.

..............and it depends on "how it runs." If it runs like a stone, tell 'em it's a 273/ 318. If it runs like a raped ape, see if you can get any mileage out of a 273, LOL

This guy claims it's a 283................

Thanks folks. That was what I needed to know. The 273 is an interesting idea. Mopar folks would know it wouldn't belong in a 68 but, if its not the original engine anyway (fender tag says its a slant six) that might not matter. Looks like my scheme will work. Yeah, the aluminum head thing might not work. Okay, I don't know what I'm talking about question of day (for me, this comes easy) can aluminum heads be painted? (I was thinking no, it won't stick or might mess up their ability to shed heat?)

Much cooler emblem-

Both ran 4 speeds and in 64 my 283 Chevelle ran 13. 0"s for H stock. In 89 I had a 318 in a 66 Valiant ran 13.02's yet had way more mods.
