Not enough younger people in this hobby...

-
I agree, the young need a mentor, but some are just not intrested in mopars.
my boys will camp, hunt, fish, boat or just hang out.
but when it comes to my old mopars, they have no intrest.

Some want to know and some don't. I've been interested on older cars from day one. I'm mechanically inclined, but can't rebuild a tilt steering column to save my life. I've not had anyone there to show me

I miss my 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec 2 Nür. That car had power, looks, handling, and I could daily drive the thing plus still get good mpg out of it. I will say it took getting use to right hand drive.
Point of this is just get then in the hobby to begin with, get them interested into any type of car (would you prefer a mopar sure, but any will do) that can show learning on both ends. Here you can teach about ripping a motor apart and rebuilding it but they can show you how to play with that computer and get the most out of the motor.

Also the age group involved has a lot to do with it I think. Most of the muscle car owner are much older than their friend who own newer cars. You won't be picking up a potential date at a muscle car show but at an import show the potential skyrockets (my GT-R was a magnet ).

BTW rani, I posted to your thread and revived it from the dead cause I was thinking recently of making one like that and was into sharing how I got started.

Pics?

Of the gtr? I only have a couple of them (not a my computer at the moment). I give everything I have of the cars I sell to the new owner so they have a history of it, well at least when I get my hands on it. I'll post them up when I get home.
Edit: The GTR is actually about the size of a Duster the R34 models which is the one I owned

Here you go, the only two pictures I still have of it.

Those are awesome cars! I don't have $50-60k to shell out or I would love to have an r33 to drive around here. Awd to get around better in snow and was to have a $hit ton of fun on the dusty mountain roads! 8)

what did it for me was the sound of a V-8 engine screamin in the high RPM's...and that LOPEY ruff idle sound and noisy solid lifter-ness...I was hooked and want ALL my v-8's to sound like that!

...those jelly bean cars just don't do it-no way-no how!!! sound like a damn fart going down the road. NO THANK YOU!

i'm 26 and privileged to be able to own a muscle mopar!

Can't wait till my 2 yr old daughter is old enuff to drive, cuz we're gonna be buildin her a muscle mopar as well.

On Wednesday I went to Chik-fil-a for some lunch in the Valiant and as I was leaving a teenage boy yelled at me from his moms' minivan in the drive-thru.
He asked me what kind of car it was. I told him "a Plymouth Valiant."
He then asked what year it was, I said "66." He then gave a thumbs up and said he has a 66 Mustang back home he's workin on......so I'm guessing he was from outta town as the Chik-fil-a was off I25. I told him, "that's cool, nice cars."
He then told me that I had a nice car, I said thanks and left.
His mom had a big smile on her face as well. Prob glad that he's into something that'll keep him out of trouble....at least for some time.

I think that it just depends on the region or part of country you're in as far as the young guns looking to muscle cars or not. Some will be more, some will be less.

To the O/P, you should take them to an NMCA event or some sort of high-powered drag racing event that shows just how powerful and beautiful these cars can be..... Thats what did it for me. Have a cousin that's like 15 years older than me take me my first drags in St. Louis when I was 16....it was an NMCA event.
Once I seen the fox body Mustang and the 69 Camaro both drag bumpers leavin the tree side by side...I was forever hooked.

yes i think your right. i think it would a be a lot harder for a young gun to get in the muscle car world who lives in a rust zone and is having extreme difficulty finding a good starting point of a car. i see some members toil over rust and wonder if i would even have the energy to tackle it.

those of us who live in dry areas find rust free cars that you can put an engine in and go.....even if its not that pretty.

young ppl everywhere need ppl to explain why this hobby is important as well as why it is cool.......we were not here when these cars were new so how can we know of their original glory unless someone tells us who was there. :toothy9:

The r33 is a good car but know that it is the biggest of the skyline models and like the r32 still rocked a 5 speed. A common swap is to put in the r34s 6 speed (it's rated for higher output than the 5 speeds).

Well, I have 2 kids and they are both carzy about Mopars. Of course you know Nella and her love for Sunfish, but my 9 year old son Ian is as crazy bout them as I am!! He's always under, near, in,on top, or otherwise helping out in the garage, and I'm as happy as can be about that. He wants the GTX when he's 16, and he's on the right track to get it!!

Heres a pic...working in the garage with Dad!! Geof

Nice Cherokee!! Good choice too, a lot of younger guns dig on the 4x4 scene and with good reason!! They're fun, safer than the rice burners and oh, did I mention fun!! Looks like your lad was already trying out his new tires!!!

Your boys got a nice Jeep, Joe. Those things are cheap to maintain, too. He ain't no dummy. Wait......he couldnt have got that from you.

lol

View attachment 8-13-10 misc 062.jpgI have mentored to my two oldest sons who have a 74 Duster, and 64 Dart Gt. It has been great bonding time and the pass-down of knowledge. It has also embedded car-savy in them. (my youngest son opted for a ford focus four cyl.) He had enough bonding, sharing, etc. while helping us with the other two cars. He did not have 'THE PASSION', and that is ok ! He gets great gas mileage and fantastic grades in school.

They need to loose that air cleaner. Those are a fire waiting to happen that might result in a car burnt to the ground and injured people.
