Best way to get a flip top gas cap on a dart

i have seen a number of darts around the vastness of FABO with cuda flip top gas caps on them.

so my question is:

to get a cuda gas cap on my dart, do i need the gas tube from a cuda as well.

and also do i need to cut into the 1/4 to make reliefs for the hinge and tab? if i do thats ok ...i have the car down for paint now.

what is the best way to approach this ?

There's an article in an older MopMuscle I believe, where Steve Dulcich did the same. I think he recessed the quarter, put a couple of notches on each side, and iirc, he mounted the filler tube from the outside. Maybe someone here remembers better.

On my Duster I riveted it to an old chrome gas cap. It looks the part, but isn't functional.
 
I have one on my 63 rani. I got the adapter from our member here. He;s a real nice guy. It fits good too.
 
Rani I dont have a barracuda cap on my car but do have a 68 Charger cap on it usin the mentioned above adapter and let me say it is a quality part and definately worth the money

chargers and cudas used the same cap ...the only difference is the charger had a separate trim ring.

thanks for the review on the adapter though ......might have to get one :glasses7:

He hasn't logged on to FABO in almost two months. Just letting you know.
 
i dont know ...im kinda leaning towards cutting reliefs into the 1/4 ...the adaptor is easier and faster and not so permanant ....but to me the cap will hug the body more by cutting the 1/4 ......i have a cuda and i was comparing tonight and i notice the cuda has like a mini basin where the cap mounts to make it look real close to the body from the profile.

just thought though ....i didnt work on the car tonight so im kicking a lot of ideas around.
 
Personally Id rather have a cable operated door like a modern car.
 
Anybody ever put a charger one with the trim ring on top of the quater like the chargers had? Maybe fab a recessed spot to get the trim ring to sit flush and you'd have to fab or modify a filler neck. I'd like to see one like this as I'm thinkin that might be how I'll do it if I put a flip top on a car.

I'd personally rather have one that has a flush door then you push it in and it pops out. I'm drivin a corolla temporarily and it has a cable door, it's ok but I like the push release ones better
 
I'd rather stick with my locking cap as cool as the flip top caps are.

Gas is too damn expensive....

Why not find a charger in a junkyard(if you can) and get the top of the 1/4 and graft it in

That's exactly what I want to do to my sport. Hagen's sells them. A few other members on this site have done the same thing. They look great.

 
I just bought gas in my 67 Cuda and the attendant tried really hard to twist open my flip out gas cap. I yelled at him to hit the side button, but he kept twisting.:wack::sign3:
