Well i went to the track again tonight to try and get some tuning done on the 67 cuda and enjoy some bracket racing also.

I took off my 7 blade stock fan and installed my clutch fan --knowing full well -- the motor would be running a little bit hotter.:angryfir:
All in the search for a quicker ET.

SO......................
1.)My first run was 14.158 @ 95.54 == a tenth better then the last time at the track even though my 60 foot short time was 2.004.
Last time it was in the 1.94/1.95 area.
It's very slippery on street night.

2.)Next run was my first elimination run ---14.15 dial in
car ran 14.370 @ 84.37 -------I let off the gas and then got back on at the finish line.
>>>>>I cut a .010 light and was way out on the guy. I win.

3.)This next run had a very strange outcome........I dialed a 14.21 because the track was getting slippery and traction was bad.(2.111 60 foot)
I ran a 14.379 again---- BUT..... at 94.27 --on the brakes at the line.

I got a .027 light BUT--- he cut the tree down to a .006.(I lost......:sad5:)

TIME FOR TIME TRIALS.

The faster this 318 gets, the hotter it gets, and in bracket racing that's just not a good situation to have happen.

4.)I get in time trials and decide to lean the primary's out one size to a 70 jet from a 71 jet ---------81 in rear.
The car goes 14.23@95.27.

I run the car two more times to see what works the best shift points.

1.)I try o lower shift point then 6000/6000 and shift the car at 6000/5500 -------------------------------it goes 14.30@94.26

2.)I run the car again and shift at 6200/6200.
------------------------------ The car goes14.18@96.11.

NO WONDER THIS 318 FELT SO GOOD WITH 4.56 GEARS.

225@50 cam.......453 lift 108 lsa. PAW CAM/MADE BY CRANE

I can't wait to see what this car will run with.....

A.)a real radiator

B.)26 Inch slicks and or re-install the 4.56 gears with the spool.

Who ever said a short cam won't rev past 6000 grand and make power.
Next time out i might do 6400/6200...............lol. 318'S.....:burnout:

I forgot to mention I believe I broke the transmission mount on the last run.

I pulled out of the parking lot at the track and the car hit second gear and went clunk....................:? OH WELL.

Nice numbers! you know 318s caint run. LOL

What's the lobe separation on that cam? I'm guessing 110 if it pulls past 6000rpm in a 318.

My 318 has a 227 intake lobe and it makes it's peak at 5700. but it's ground on a tighter lobe separation at 107.

sounds like you're getting some nice quick times there. if you can get it to hook up a little better it'll be even quicker for sure! :)

It's a 108 lobe separation angle.(lsa)
I just installed the new radiator and it cooled off some.
Next will be 60 foot times.......26 inch tall mickeys.(more gear and bite)
I am waiting for a new spicer u joint.........napa.

I have learned that most engines like to be shifted at least-- 500 rpm --over their peak power.

i have that same cam on the shelf (new). it only lists the duration @ 50, but i wanted to know the "seat to seat" duration so i had jerry at schneider racing cams profile it.that cam has a ton of advertised duration... 292*....and a late intake closing point.the same cam is in my old speed pro book as well. p/n cs178r. power band of 2800-6000.

I found out what the clunking was-----front u joint.

I think so to rumble.....

True oldmanrick-----I think some big torque engines are shifted closer to the peak power band or in a light car with big cubes.

340.................
Here's the cam card.
It says it has 302 advertized.

Based on that cam card, that cam is 110° LSA installed at 106° ICL ...not 108°LSA
