awhile back i installed an electric fuel pump in my trucks tank. now the gauge reads like the title. i must have reinstalled the connections backwards. will reversing the connections change the reading? since is nearly imposible to reach the connections could i just cut into the wiring harness and swap the wires?

Somehow your gas gauge wire has shorted directly to ground! The wire to your in-tank fuel pick-up/sender is the ground wire for the dash gauge.

That would be my guess. Pinched sender wire, etc, or damaged the sender when replacing the pump

i just check the wiring diagram and it has 2 wires on the sending unit. 1 goes to ground and the other is a positive which goes to the in dash gauge.

Where does the ground wire go? If you switched the wires and the sender has a good internal ground, it would be grounding your fuel gauge directly. I would definitly switch the wires before considering more complicated solutions. Don't do a hack job shortcut. Cutting wires could end up with bigger problems.

anyone have an idea?

I have never seen a classic Mopar with 2 wires to the sending unit, just one with a 90 degree terminal end. The senders have a threaded rod that the terminal slides onto.
P I C T U R E S !!!!

ok fellows, i get back to the truck this weekend maybe. i just recieved the computer and harness back from 66valiant thursday. once i get it started i'll get it up on ramps so i have room underneath to see what i messed up. i'll try to swap the connectors but it's pretty cramped on top of the tank. i don't think this is your classic mopar as it's a truck that came as a chassis cab when new.
