anybody have any experience with 80's style lock up transmissions.
pro's and cons with a warm smallblock?

I rebuilt an 84 diplomat tranny and ran it in a 318 mild Duster. It had the low gear set, 5 disc up front and hyd lockup control. You can plug the orifice to eliminate lockup, install a stiffer spring to raise mph engagement, or have a converter built without the clutch. Worked great, the 318 was stock.
It's hard to find anyone using one. Most opinions are get a non lockup. I'm going to run this same tranny behind the 340 Dart I am putting together with what I have in my garage.

Got one in the truck with a 300hp LA318. my son drives it more than me and he likes it. I put it in because we had one and a 904 hanging around. We all agree that we want a manual and something stronger, although it hauled 1500lbs of scrap and has moved around some heavy loads so far.
