Newbie here, just need some help on my 1965 Dart, (super six) - the front bushings are shot on the strut rods, I just assumed that they could be removed by removing the large nut and washer on the forward end of the rods. However, once I removed the right side nut and washer, it does not seem possible to completely remove the old bushing. Half still stuck in there. The shop manual is unclear, as to procedure, but seems to indicate the whole strut rod has to be removed. And doing that requires removal of the lower control arm? Seems like lot of work to replace those front rubber bushings. Help me out here, what's the best way?

You just described it.

I just paid the local front end guy to do the job. gave him the parts and rebuilt lower control arms and he did the lineup at the same time. $250 cash

Yes the strut rod will need to be backed out of the hole.
The only things that make suspension work easier are a heavy hammer and the practice/experience using it. What to hit, where to hit, and in what order to hit.

thanks guys. Looks like I take on a bigger job than planned.
