"Run and Gun" Fantasy or Practical?

I work with a spazzy little guy who talks about his guns from time to time and how he would put down an intruder or what not. I've seen this guy in panic mode and when his emotions have the best of him (always). I think if it came down to it, a lot of folks would get hurt.

He's also happy to chirp about how it wouldn't bother him at all to shoot someone if he had to.

Honestly, I think I would have a 50% at best if the fantasized "home invasion" via murderer/gang member, on drugs or psychotic situation happened. I have the guns and have years of experience shooting targets, birds, and small game but I'm not going to kid myself and imagine me doing somersaults over a couch and head shotting bad guys. My best defense is the odds. The odds if my reinforced doors and windows and barking dog don't keep them out then my announcing "I am armed and the police are on their way" will send most robbers/drug addicts running for the door. If not, I pray my judgement and nerves can take care of the rest. I would never, ever, ever want to kill someone who simply wanted my possessions.

Your co-worker sounds like someone who has been "desensitized" via Youtube and video games. I see this at my range all the time. IT types and gamer nerds with tactical toys shooting zombie targets while laughing and yelling "get some!", or "boom head shot!". Most of these guys would piss their pants if I walked up and made them flinch.
