I have the rear in. I bought what I thought was the right drive shaft online to match up with my 904. NOT

It's way short.
I have another drive shaft from a parts car, and it's a different length still.....

Does anyone have a spec on what I need? I'd like to drop off my drive shaft to get cut/shortened without towing the car down there....

thanks!

From my 69 FSM it says for a Dart (same 11 in WB as the 65), the length of the driveshaft should be 52.27 in from C/L to C/L of the U joints. This is for an LA motor with 904 and 8.75 axle. Just for info, if with a 4 speed and 8.75 it is 51.96. All driveshafts are 3 in in diameter and some have the IVA (Internal Vibration Absorber at the front u joint.

EDIT: BTW will be doing the same set up in my 65 'vert - 340/904/8.75

The best way to get the correct length drive shaft would be to figure out how much longer the 8.75 rear end is. Drive shaft number lengths are all over the place.

Using the "C" dimensions 12.35" less 10.09" equals 2.26" shorter than your original shaft length.

should be the same as my 70 if its a 112 wheelbase, I went from a /6/904/ 7 1/4 to a 360/904/ 8 3/4 and wound up with 52 1/2 after careful measurement which is only a 1/4 inch off of what 65dartman said the book gives

There isn't a 112" wb Dart in 1970. It would be a 111" wb.

1965 Dart had 111" wheelbase, what 1965 are you working on? Valiants only had 106" wheelbase.

If the rear is in the car, why not just measure from the flange on the rear of the trans, to the center of the u-joint cup in the rear yoke? If not using the 65 trans with the flange, just put the slip yoke all the way into the trans, pull it out about 1 inch and measure from u-joint to u-joint centers. Doo this with the suspension loaded.

I'll need my driveshaft shortened, or a new driveshaft.

Who can do this in Maryland?

been to 3 shops, no one can spin the shaft with the front joint used on the 65 Dart.

Almost ready to be running, need to be driving soon....

Just a suggestion, Why not get a new driveshaft made, that has a standard "U" joint at the front?
See this thread, post #4 and #6

Not sure what post 4 and 6 say for this.

My transmission doesn't take a yoke, it's flanged to meet my driveshaft.

I need my driveshaft shortened
