at least the nail.split. woulda hurt a lot worse if it "retained" the pressure. always hate having to poke that hole.

been there done that.

I always keep some horse bandage around in the shop, house, barn, tractors and vehicles. The other one is to keep a tampon as well as it absorbes bloods from major cuts. Horse bandages can usually be found at TSC or vet places.

It only sticks to itself and you can cram paper towels underneath and wrap it up.
I had a splint on my one hand due to a pinky finger fracture, and it was wrapped with medical tape.
I still had to milk cows despite dr orders. So the horse bandage came in handy and i wrapped it up with blue or red depending on the mood. Milked cows and got the bandage dirty. Simply removed bandage afterwards and the medical wrap was still clean.

Yes, injuries/sickness cannot keep a family dairy farmer from milking cows because it has to be done. Whens the last time you had a union worker not milk the system?

I know of one who passed away almost a year ago from a brain tumor who wasn't allowed to go to work. That damn near killed her, in and of itself. She hated being out of work. She had a lot of concern for her patients and her co-workers and hated the idea of being forced to stay home. She felt it unfair to her co-workers 'cause they had to cover her job (it took three of them, by the way) and felt that it was wrong because her patients needed her.

As for the do-it yourself bandage, my personal preference is masking tape. If only to keep blood from dripping all over a customer's car.

As old school parts guy,I like the original parts, in my hands. Of course, I bleed. I do a reprint, fold it over. Use the 2" packing tape, wrap it. Problem solved.

Thanks...I really like some of the suggestions..I really hate catching the nail after something like this..

My wife bought me ..what it looks like a bandage condom..the inside is non stick and it slides over the wound...it is for toes though :)

Here's another "Lady Item" that will work in a pinch: Sanitary Napkins. I know all you guys are saying, "EWWWWWW", right now but think about it. They're sterile, can cover larger areas than any band aid, and can be wrapped with bandages to keep the injured area/wound clean.

Damn that. I always use a drill.

I hate to poke the hole too, I don't use a drill but I do use the smallest drill bit that I can find. I spin it with my fingers to cut through the nail. I would be afraid that the drill and bit would grab the last bit of nail material and go right through my finger / toe.

Oh.... almost forgot, nice bandage and I hope I don't have to use any of the other suggestions here but I will keep them in mind if an accident does occur.

me too- a little paper towel folded into a tiny square, held on with electrical tape:thumbup:

Yeah, me too.

Dont forget after all the bleeding stops, the best way to get it to heal is to soak it in cider.... :coffee2: :D

Oh wait, that is supposed to be "soak it inside her..." Get it? :toothy10:
