Here is a picture of our exhaust system after the headers.

We are not quite sure where the muffler ends on the car. Immediately after the muffler there is a quite sizable clamp. I think rather than doing the over the rear axle thing, we would like to see the exhaust branch off to exit before the rear tire.

I have seen stubbies after the muffler pointing down...not sure how that would sound.

Does anybody have this system and is what I am talking about do able ?

Thanks
ian.

I run side exhuast with "cheap" headman headers(the long tubes), i found that there isnt room to run side exhaust and an X-pipe.

Gotcha. This is some of the legacy parts that came with the car. I found the date of purchase and it was '07.

Thanks
Ian.

Thanks...my mustang is the same way.

Any idea how cars sound with just shorty 45 degree pips pointing down from the muffler's sound ?

Ian.

The down side of side exhaust is if something happens to the motor. As head gasket or piston ring or any thing comes out of the exhaust. it goes right on the tires. Not a good thing to experience. One reason I dump in the center. but I still have the tail pipes for the look and sound out the back for the police.

...that is cool. So you have sound below and back. Do cops require the exhaust coming out the back or is that a safety inspection issue in your state. Our second thought was to stop the exhaust before the back axle.

The problem with moving the mufflers forward on an A is that there really isn't room, unless you want small really loud mufflers, or don't mind 'em "hanging"

well there is that other option aswell, moving the floor up and out of the way;)

The side exit muffler is pretty neat

I spoke with them a few times on the phone. He suggested calling and discussing what you want/need as he can modify the mufflers to fit you needs....They also sell oval tubing....

My car has side exhaust with Hedman fenderwell headers. Sounds mean as hell but I have to pass provincial inspection so I have to change the exhaust system to get it street legal. Here is car and vid of how it sounds as reference.

Why would anyone want the exhaust sound in their car?

Why do your mufflers have to be in front?

Why must exhaust pipes go over the rear housing when using a full setup?

My 3 answers:

I don't want to be part of any conversation while driving or hear the radio over the exhaust.

Mufflers have to be in front because someone told me so.

Mufflers have to go over the rear housing because it adds to the cost of the installation, after all straight pipes are too easy to install or remove.

and #4 - SuperTrapps cost too much for a muffler that will outlast your engine or transmission after all we're not made of money :(

What's with the headers? I have never seen headers like that on a small block?

I love the sound of super traps! I would have them on both of our vehicles if I had the money

I have cheapo under chassis headers and side exhaust with flowmaster super 44s. Its loud but has a great sound. I'm young and don't mind the noise though. I've driven some 5 hour trips with it and it never got on my nerves. I just got a buddy that has a shop to bend my exhaust up. The mufflers don't hit speed bumps or anything either. No x pipe

Once you relocate the rear springs running large tail pipes becomes a challenge to say the least. So for some, out the back is damn near impossible. If you want to sacrifice your trunk to a fuel cell this obviously changes...

Here is a better picture. They are fenderwell Hedman Husler Hedders. Headers are a challenge for us early a body guys due to the smaller bays. I think the only non-fenderwell choices for these cars are Doug's or TTI's. The aircleaner has since been swapped out since the picture was taken. Heard bad things about these triangle cleaners.

actualy its not all that bad to have a fuelcell in the trunk atleast not on a duster, lots of space left around it.

Ian, our inspection laws require that car exhaust systems exit outside of the body of the car, weather it be out the side or the rear, trucks are more lenient and only have to be 12" past truck cab and turn downward

I see that your car has a muffler so are side pipes illegal in your province ?

Cannot be sound legislation or there wouldn't be a Harley on the road...:)

What a clean looking engine bay. WE had enough probs with TTIs..those must have been a nightmare but they look really cool.

Forgot to mention that when I went to buy my Mustang, the car dealership refused to install the side exhausts that I wanted to buy stating they were illegal and would never pass safety inspection.

So i called the folks that write the safety inspection rules ..they had no problems wit the system I ws interested in so I bought the car from another dealership.
