Hi y'all

Was going to sell my partially finished 1988 daytona shelby z project, then came to the realization that i have most of the parts to complete it, and have a ton of spare parts and 2 parts cars, and a bunch of NOS parts for it. Got to talking with a buddy of mine, and checking out the old shelby parts websites, still a strong following for these cars. Being that money is tight right now i may shelve the cuda for the time being, and work on this one to completion.

Its still a mopar, and a pretty cool one at that. T top, turbo ll intercooled , 5 speed, with the rare daytona blue metallic paint, shelby only that year. (290) made with that color in 1988. Only 25 made that color with t tops. Documented by chryslers historical archives, def needs to be restored.

So i guess once the sunporch is completed, and the house repaint is done, i will start swapping the cars around in the shop, and start giving the daytona a looking over, and come up with a battle plan to finish it up.i will still be collecting parts to do the cuda, but it wont be as pressing.

I've found it's sometimes it's best to work with what you already have, then move on to something else after you complete the first project.

I always liked the Shelby Dodges. As a matter of fact, I once owned 46 Shelby Dodges at one time! They are addictive, just like a-bodies. And a properly running turbo car is a wonderful thing to drive!

I bought 2 Shelby Dakota trucks new, then got a Shelby Charger for a daily driven, then a Shelby lancer, then...........the next thing I knew I owned 46 of them. Too many to take care of, of course. I also had all kinds of bad luck that let me to finally sell of all of them. I had some stored in a building and they were all vandalized, the ones I had outside were hit by a huge hailstorm, and a tree fell on one.

I sold most of them probably 8 or 9 years ago. I kept the trucks I bought new until I sold one last year and one the year before.
One I really wish I had kept was the '88 Daytona pilot car. Not only was it the first '88 Daytona built (s/n 00001), it was also a Shelby (C-1 PILOT).

Good luck with your project.

Back in the mid 80's, I worked in the bodyshop of a dodge dealership. One of my duties was installing the spoilers and ground effects on the shelby's before delivery. I always liked them.

They're cool cars! I had an 89 Daytona Shelby T-tops that I traded a few years ago... I regret it!! Mine was the same colour as yours (Daytona blue) and its a beautiful colour! Mine was one of 42 made because it had no A/C (had dealer installed A/C) I traded it for a 1989 mustang gt 5.0L... I know, I know.. It was fun to drive and do donuts in, but I sold it too and lost.

Here's mine that I restored.

Thanks! Yeah it was a dumb move on my part.. The guy I traded with still has it and never plans on parting with it.

Here is another rare one... A 1990 Daytona Shelby VNT in the same colour (last year for this colour on the Daytona) I never did anything with it and sold it (1 of 536 VNT cars) it was rusty and and had a spun rod bearing but was still all complete and restorable. I had 7 Shelby's at one time.

All Canadian Daytona's were Chrysler's and in the US they were Dodge's

This was my 87 Shelby Z (original paint) and had digital everything and talking dash, was a really neat car! The other was my daily driver 89 ES turbo (made a Shelby clone and custom hood)

I also had a 1988 Shelby z. Daytona blue, turbo intercooled car. It was a neat car but was previously hit hard and fixed badly years ago so I parted it. Lets see pics of yours! I still have a soft spot for these cars.

That 90 was rusty?!? Not by Ontario standards!!!

The rockers were gone and the floors were soft in the front, same as the lower quarters. It was definitly repairable tho! My Swinger is worse and im fixing it, but it has the advantage of all the sheetmetal available for it. Nobody makes replacement parts for these cars, but there are still a lot around that are solid and make good doner cars. I hope the guy who bought it saved it...

Hey Dallas

I remember that pilot production car, i wanted to buy it from you, but back during that time my marriage was on the rocks, got divorced a few years later. Kept my shelby, all the parts n parts cars, but just lost interest for awhile. I please tell me whoever bought the C1 car understands its significance, and restores it, and doesnt trash it out.

Matt

Where are the pictures??

Car is currently sitting in the corner of my shop with all sorts of stuff leaning on it, piled on it etc. not currently very photogenic at the moment, actuall completely buried in the corner of the shop lol.

Not a Shelby but its a Daytona:glasses7:

I sold the pilot car to an older guy that is fairly local. He went completely through it and repaired the damage done by the vandals (and mice from it sitting) , did everything except paint it. He then seemed to lose interest in it and sold it. I recently asked him where it went but he said he didn't remember.
Like you, I hope someone got it who realizes it's significance. I actually regret selling it more than the 2 Shelby Dakotas I bought new. Selling the trucks helped finance my new Challenger, which I don't regret buying one bit!
BTW, Due to a computer crash I lost all of my original Shelby pics taken back when I decided to sell them. I just have a couple of random ones plus the recent ones of the Lancer and my trucks.
