ok, as I stated earlier, we are looking at keeping this 360 in the Duster and getting rid of the 340's. he wants to sell the parts to finish the Dart Sport. That is why I posted earlier as to the 304 vs. 360. I went through the bottom end on the 360. I am thinking of putting a healthy cam in it and having the x heads completely redone with a good intake and carb. what would you guys suggest. what brand components and size. how steep of a cam can we go with here. It will not be on a strip. it will have a 4 speed behind it. is this crank drilled for a pilot bushing to put a 4 speed in it already. I am learning this all over again. these are the questions I need help with. He wants something to do car shows with and when I don't know about it, he will probably want to burn the tires off of it. I already saw that the right tire was getting pretty slick and had to replace that one. I told him I didn't do that when I was his age but he does not believe me. so help me out here and let me know what kind of set up you guys would go with here. Things have changed so much since I was young. thanks, Bill

Honestly Bill, i'm not sure where you ended up on his combo, other then I remember you had a Thunder series carb on it at one point. I usually recommend Comp & Lunati cams, only because the're readily available and are reasonably priced. If your willing to spend a few extra $$$, I have a feeling a Hughes "Whiplash" series cam & springs may fit exactly into what you guys are looking for.

Should he believe you??? LMAO!!!!

Rick, I swapped the Thunder series carb on his car with the 750 Eddy on my car. it seems to work out better for the both of us. And WRB, I know he does not believe me. I have made the mistake too many times of telling him stories in the past of the way it was back in the day of how I beat the pants off of a guy who had a 69 Nova with a 396 in it and got so pissed when I took him in my 69 Swinger 340. so no, he doesn't believe me for a second, but I tried to convince him. Swinger........static compression and gears, have no idea. It is a pretty much stock engine and I believe it has a towing cam in it. This engine came out of a 78 or 79 RV. I bought this engine to just throw in the car so he could drive it until he put the 340 together down the road. when I got it, found out that #7 piston had some water in it so I pulled the engine down and put rods and mains in it and honed the cylinders real good and stuck a set of rings on it. I verified the engine to have 43,000 miles on it and there was no ring wear on the cylinders at all. it turned out nice and it is strong and has no smoke or anything. I have almost convinced him to not even put the cam in it. I told him if he had the x heads done and with a good intake and carb on it he will probably have all he NEEDS right now and put the money where it is better used. In the 4 speed and paint. I pulled the 8.75 rearend out of a 66 Coronet a couple years ago and have not been back in it other to check it out when we swapped it. What ever the Coronets came with is what rear is has. I think it was a big block Coronet. We just put this car on the road this spring. I have a lot of things to do with it yet.

Probably something made for low compression like the Thumpr or the Hughes Whiplash. They help keep cylinder pressure up but sound nasty too.

I agree with Rob. You don't want to use a very large cam with a low compression engine. It just can't take advantage of such a large fuel charge and will run crappy.

I also agree with a Whiplash cam. Great sound with good driveability. If you're doing shows then this would be a good choice.

As long as it closes the intake valve earlier,( like a Whiplash,on Thumper cam),keeping the cyl. psi. up,should be good.
