1970: GTS and 383 V-8 options are dropped as the Dart gets a face-lift. All coupes are called Dart Swingers, and the 340-cube V-8 is the biggest option. A 198-cu in slant six, which is the 225 with a shorter stroke, supplants the 170.

I have been messing with mopars for 30 years and have never seen 1 or heard of 1. Let's see 1 that is factory
 
yes they were made, i had one but was wrecked years ago. a beloved member here(bruce R.I.P) has a forum for them, but he passed away a while back. it is called the 70-71 dart gt registry. my old one is registered there, the only one in citron yella. also multiple members here own them. 72blunblu has 2 i believe, gmachine dart also i think.

I've got a 1970 GT also. They are very rare and I never saw one until I moved out west in 2001 despite working on 70 darts since 1970. They are an option for the High trim (LH23) Dart Custom that adds bucket seats, console shift and some name plates. Mine is a 318 automatic, but I've seen 6 cylinder versions - I've seen half a dozen converted to 340s.

The 1971 has a way cool name plate on the lower rocker panel below the doors. In Washington, the Evergreen State, there were apparently a few dealerships that ordered a run of tripple green ones for promotion.
 
I've got a '71 Dart GT. 318, 2-bbl, A-904 (console shifted), Bucket seats, A/C, PS, Rimblow, a 3.23:1 Sure-Grip 8 3/4" rear-end, GY8 gold, and black vinyl top/interior all from the factory.

I've added SSBC front disc brakes, MP Electronic Igniton (orange ecu), 1970 style twin hood scoops, 14" X 5 1/2" Rallye Wheels (all 4) with 1970 "cone" centers, AutoMeter Z-Series gauges (water, oil, temp, & tachometer), Grant steering wheel (Rimblow removed for future restoration (or not)).

All information I've gathered from Chrysler Historical states ~1.3% of the ~96,*** Darts produced in 1971 were the GT model. Actual numbers were lost in a fire.

A 1971 Dart GT will have "A65" on the fender tag, and will have the rocker panel "Dart GT" emblems. My car has the console/bucket seats. Saw another 1971 Dart GT that had bucket seats without the console. Not sure if any 1971 Dart GT had a bench seat.

when i found my old 1, i thought it was bogus but my friend only wanted a few hundred bux for it so i bought it. after a lil research i realized it was rare. then i found bruce and he decoded the fender tag for me. it was a 318 904 console car with 8.75 and high impact paint option. 34,*** orig miles, completely original. when i moved to long beach, in my first couple of weeks in town i turned the wrong way on a 1 way and was totaled by a econoline club wagon doing about 45ish.
 
I had a 70 last year...green on green, 318/904/8 3/4 bucket seat column shift car. Coded for A-pillar spotlights and the roof reinforcement package!!

As far as he registry shows, no 70 or 71 is known to come with a 340 engine!! I've seen the yellow one at the Nats last year in the car corral!!

Yes, they sure as heck did make GT's in 1971. I have two, #65 and #69 in the registry.

As Dan pointed out, original 1970 or 1971 GT's will have the "A65" package listed on the fender tag and buildsheet. '71's have a one year only rocker badge, as well as a slightly different interior pattern. Bucket seats were part of the package, most had consoles.

I found both of mine local to me in under a year. This is my EL5 GT, with the rocker trim...

And here's the GT package, as offered in the catalog in 1971. This is from the dealer manual posted at http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/. As you can see it isn't much of a package, pretty much just the buckets and the rocker badge. But still an accessory package with its own code and trim.

They definitely did make 70 and 71 GT's. They also made 70 Custom's in a 2 door model. Both the 70 Custom 2 door, and the 70/71 GT's are very rare.

I've got a 70 Custom. Started out as a /6 auto, F8 green ext, green interior. Chrome hood/eyebrow trim, wheel well trim, deluxe steering wheel, woodgrain dash, rear defrost, and one year, one model door panels. I've re done the whole car, now a 340, 727, 8 3/4, but I kept it a Dart Custom with the same interior and F8 green exterior.

blunblu: i bid on your buterscotch dart on ebay a few years back but was at work when bidding ended. would you be willing to sell one of yours? or maybee a trade? ive got a really clean 72 swinger i got in hopes of replacing my 71 gt. its a b5 blue 318 904 p/s p/b kh disk, had 83,*** orig miles when i got it with a blown up orig 318. i put a rebuilt warmed 318 in and had the 904 rebuilt. runs and drives great. needs little interior work to be perfect. body is straight with no cancer.

I bid on that butterscotch one as well, even though it was all the way across the country.

I thought it was way cool and looked like a very nice survivor example of a very rare car.
