Hi everyone. I have a 67 factory SB 4spd car. With the current SB getting tired I want to upgrade to a 440. I bought a set of Shumacher swap motor mounts already. I know what BB oil pan to find. Now I want to know whats the best solution for the exhaust. I know its very tight. I must add as well that its a manual steering car. I was told by Shumacher that even their headers wont work with the factory 4spd setup. I have tried to research if this is correct but it seems every car I find pics and info on it is an auto and not a 4spd.

Can anyone who has made this swap using the factory SB k-member with Shumacher conversion mounts and a 440 please chime in with what they used as either looked for the factory manifolds or what headers they did use? Thank you

I read on here somewhere B body hedman headers will work. What I bought for my 67 Cuda project. Mine is an Automatic though and my motor is on a stand and headers in the box? we will see?

i have the article somewhere that said they would work with a manual steering box which is what I have but also an Automatic not a 4 speed
I can dig if you would like me too?

I used B body headers on my 70 Dart with a 383 auto. Used the shumacker conversion mounts. I followed the instructions on bigblockdart.com. I made the small dings in them where they show to make. It is a very tight fit. Also take loose the steering linkage and tie rods to make it easier to slide them in. I am not sure with the 440 they will work. It is an inch taller on each side. You can look at the pictures I have posted in the restoration section on here under 70 dart swinger 383.

In a few years when I pull the motor to stoke it I will get the shumaker tri y headers easier install and better accesss to the starter. I even have a mini race starter on the car and it is very tight.

If you can mount engine and tranny on k member. And install from underside (setting body over it like at the factory) it would be a lot easier job.

I've seen where HemiDenny modifies TTi A-body B-motor headers
to work with factory clutch linkage. I believe he changes the #7
tube - from his thread. (see pic)

they fit good with simple mods found on bigblock dart.

hey james and keith leave him alone, big block a bodies are cool...

im sry. you are correct. they are cool.

as you can see, i root for the underdawg. I like heavy hittin smallblocks that blow everything else away. :)

so you think. lmao

Big block A bodies ARE cool, but without a lot of money in aluminum parts, they don't like to turn.

Wow you would think if HemiDenny could do that. TTI could make them fit better.

Only the #7 tube interferes with the clutch cross shaft.

Other than that.....I like; they tuck up nicely.

I wonder why they do not change it themselves?

All they gotta do is ask me....I got a list.

OR you can make sets and sell them for less than they can and they actually fit :)

TTI doesn't want to have conversations with actual customers about how to make their stuff fit better.

Guys I have no issue with killer small blocks. I just like to be different.

I have to ask has anyone ever used the factory A-body 383 manifolds on a 440 in a spd car without clearance issues? Not they are easy to find but it gives me a possible solution. I would love to use headers. But will not cut into my inner fenders though. Guys, I have the car and now a motor. I need to find an affordable yet affeciant solution for my headers. Please help:)

Well guys I called TTI today and had a good heart to heart. I was told by Mr. Raby that if I use a TTI Z-bar along with a set of the 1 3/4 or 2" headers that I can use them.

Will anyone who has used this setup please chime in to let me know how it worked? Thank you to everyone who has already chimed in. Including Mr. Denny:)

They don't work if they are shorties. I tried shorties on my 74 Valaint 4 door and they come out where the steering linkage is.
So they could be used with a front mount rack steering set up

I have old CPPA's (which I think TTI got the pattern from?) on my low deck w/stock z-shaft...fits tight but works OK. My buddy has TTI's on his 440/500" with a stock z-shaft but I believe he modified his..not real sure how. I know they can be made to work. Both are manual steering cars. Affordable and efficient are not words that go along with these cars!! lol Still nothing more fun than a BB a-body!! Good luck!!
