I had GREAT luck with "Easy Off" oven cleaner. It worked on years of crud in about two minutes. A few days ago it was time to buy more. The store's house brand was on sale. More for less $, cool - right? You all know what happened when I used it yesterday. It didn't work crap. Back to the store today for the good stuff. If you find one that works , stick with it.
Have a fun and safe 4th.

Yep and stay away from the enviro safe Easy Off stuff.

Even the no odor easy off isn't as strong as the original. Lemon scent Scrubbing Bubbles not as strong as the eye stinging original.

original yellow cap easy off .. that the way to go.. works great! I hear draino crystals also work. as soon as I find some I'll give that a try too! and it's the lye in it that makes it work so good!

the original lemon easy off is the best one ....I get that one at Dollar Tree for a dollar a can.

its best to use it outside though ....the fumes are brutal .....it makes me feel like im choking when I get a draft of it ....I started using a paint respirator when I use it ....its some pretty strong stuff ....makes your skin itchy too ......but it removes baked on, caked on grease very well.

Been using the original formula Easy-Off with the yellow cap to remove old striping from vehicles ever since Hector was a pup. Nothing else works as well and its' a dirty job. I sometimes put a clear cellophane over it with taped edges which I believe makes it work faster..

Yep, used the cheap oven cleaner on my 4spd tranny...worked ok. 2nd time around I coated it then wrapped in saran wrap, let it sit for a day, worked way better. Next time with the engine I will use the Yellow cap easy off.

I just cleaned my grill using Zep from Home Depot. I do it once a year and it took two cans. In my opinion, it was equal to Easy Off.

rubber eraser for drill removes strips without harming paint, quickly too

As of late, I just get a cup of purple power concentrate, 1 pound of lye and put it into a 5 or 10 gallon rubbermaid tub full of water along with anything you want to degrease. Move around once every 3 days. It will be 100% clean in 1 -2 weeks with no effort. The vat will last many times of decreasing parts. If you have an engine to degrease, just spray the mixture on with a pump sprayer. I had 4 pans used to bake chicken in the oven for years. 100% carbon grease baked on. The pans were ruined. 2 week soak and 2 quick brushes to knock off the loose stuff within the 2 weeks and they came out 100% pristine brand new.

This mixture is equally as dangerous to your skin and eyes as original easy off so use protective gear!

I will have to try the original, I tried one time before but I used the cheaper house brand and wasn't at all impressed, guessing that's why.

Search the web and order some "Red Devil" lye.

Better than the original "Easy Off"

I use Easy Off to strip chrome from plastic. Used it on my 67's arm rest bases, shriveled the chrome right up, washed them off, then sprayed them with white pearl.

you know you git the good Easy-off when you get it on your hands and it starts to burn a little. The original is the best. Degreased the engine, trans and k-member on my 68 when I redid the car.
