Using Pro Parts headers in a 440. The header collector hangs low on the driver side. Looking for solutions to raise it up. I had thought about using a floor jack and providing pressure to raise it. Any better ideas?

Damn.Pro Parts headers, are nice. Some pictures, would help: immensely.

Josh..DON,T I repeat DON,T use a floor jack to try and bent.Guys have been stuck with them hanging low for years now.:wack:

No photo at the moment. I had to pull the rear so the rear of the car is up on stands I wouldnt get an accurate photo. Scott you must see an issue with my method lol.

Yeah. You'll booger up a nice set of headers.

What size are your front tires? How much room is there between the control arm bumpers? Less than 1" and you can stand to raise it up. If your tires on the front are too short, taller ones will help raise it up too. Remember......your goal was to build a street car with a late 60s early 70s flair. Some of those sat pretty high. Certainly not as low as all this modern stuff.

Tires are about 25" tall. I tried to get a photo but with the angle its sitting on stands it wasnt possible. Im worried about it hitting and really doing some damage.

Taller tire., See if you can find a 75 series for the front. I had some 215/75/15s on t he front of my 69 Barracuda

I would get it on the ground and measure the clearance before fretting too much about it. Scott is right DO NOT put a jack under them. I have cheap Summit headers on mine and with a 26" tire I have about 7" of clearance, I haven't hit anything yet.

Crank your torsion bars up or get a taller tire, those are your options.

Well, you do have a 3rd option....... Move the engine higher in the chassis, this will require significant modification.

Which brings you back to...... Crank your torsion bars up or get a taller tire.

If your 4" wheel is a problem, get a wider wheel.

You are starting to make excuses. Tires are available that would put you closer to 26".

26" tire + a little lift from the torsion bars should get you where you need to be.

And RustyRatRod is right, 60s and early 70s cars stood a bit tall.

Actually was looking for a solution that didn't involve spending money i don't have. I also remember a thread which i couldnt find about someone cutting a wedge out of their collector and welding it back up at an angle. Was hoping for ideas and maybe spark someones memory of that thread. And yes im making excuses to not have to spend more cash. But thanks fellas!

That is a common problem with those headers even back when they were designed and sold by Herb McCandless. I ran a set on a BB Scamp race car back in the early 90's. I always had trouble with the pass. side collector flange hanging up on my car trailer when I loaded it. The problem was that one of the collector flange bolts was pointing in the down position. Since this was a drag car I solved it by simply cutting off this part of the flange.

I basically got $100 in this set which is why im keeping them. Ride height isnt set either so maybe when get that done and everything where it needs to be it will be k.

Well they are 700 dollar headers new. But if you feel good about hackin um up, go for it. BUT, the collector isn't where the mod needs to be made. The primary pipes need to be shortened to do it right. Because if all you do is section the collector and angle it up, you have all the area in front of the collector still hanging down. What are you gonna do with that? Once again, you are arguing against the simplest, easiest and cheapest solution, either getting taller tires and or cranking the torsion bars up. Get you two of these.

They will fit fine on your 4" wheels. I know I know. It says minimum wheel width 5". You're only talkin about 1/2" per side, it'll fit fine. That's a 27" tall tire for 68 bucks.

Hey don't worry they will self clearance the first speed bump you find. Full length headers and big blocks hang low. Be happy you have a Mopar and can get a little clearance cranking up torsion bars. If you had a big block Camaro you would be screwed. :sad5:

Don't know if you've seen this, but it may or may not help. This is from TTI's website. Gives measurements of where engine should be sitting in relation to structural components. [ame]http://www.ttiexhaust.com/PDF/II_TTI440-200.pdf[/ame]

Lol if he had a bigblock camaro he wouldnt have any torsionbars and the steeringbox would be in adifferent location and therefore there is a very good chance the headers would not hang as low:banghead:

They have zero header issues. I had a 71 Camaro with a 502 in it. Had cheap Summit headers on it and they fit like a glove.

I've been watching this thread and I have a set of the Pro-Parts 2-2 1/8" stepped headers in my car. It's a '68 Barracuda with a 517" big block based on a 400 block with RPM heads. I believe these are the best option out there short of having a custom set made which would easily triple the cost. That being said, the headers did have to be modified quite a bit to get them to fit the way I wanted them to. Nothing some time, a few pieces of the appropriate tubing (plus a way to cut it accurately) and a welder couldn't handle! I would absolutely not try and do the "jack mod"! They have to nove quite a bit to get 'em right and you'll end up kinking a tube. Here's some pics of mine all modded and mounted.
