4 spd. console on ebay

-
I am also looking for a four speed top plate, I have several automatic ones and I may try convert one to the standard trans.
The aftermarket four speed top plate is over $500.00, a little to rich for me!

They sell the top plates new and they are nice.

Hey Steve, have you tried installing them?? Im curious how fit/finish is??

Thanks
Steve

I thought the same thing since I had an auto console, in measuring it would not have looked right, so I was lucky to find a decent 4 speed console

Now back to my ? How can you tell it is an auto console and the compartment door in argent looks to be correct for a 68, but the wood grain 4 spd top isn't a 68 and they wouldn't have both, should be all wood grain or all argent

The groove in the door should continue all the way up

So what is the opinion here on what they claim it is.

Not interested in it, just want to learn something from it

Maybe you can see the difference on the pics . The 4 spd is totally different. The underside is also different. I always thought of using a auto console until I saw the difference side by side

As OMM mentioned, it is an auto console with a 4spd top plate...as well as a mish/mash of years...
Physically a 4 spd top plate will mount onto an auto console and vice versa...but the 4spd console body has a double hump for servicing linkage rods etc...

OMM thanks for the pics, I would be interested in the top plate and shifter handle if they are available??

Thanks
Steve

There is one on ebay now, not sure if it is wbat it is advertised for. It has some pictures to view and compare to with the ones already posted. Here is the item #-- 360174054192
(In Florida... not mine.)
didnt mean to hi-jack this thread...

After thinking about it.
I ended up buying the 4 spd console. I couldn't let the fiber hump cover slip away to someone who won't have them made. I made him an offer he couldn't refuse. I got someone to go halves that wanted the door without a lock in nice shape and a complete auto console that I have.

I will post better pics once it arrives so the fittment of the cover can be seen on a original 4 spd console.

I still have the last one that sold on here but the side cover was only half of what is shown on his pic with the carpet still attached. The carpet was one piece from the strings and threads that were still attached. But it still had the cuts and edging as the pictures I have seen. It had a seam in the center in the rear.

I had a perfect set up out of a 67 years back and sold it before thinking about the carpet. I couldn't use it in my Duster due to it being silver and having a factory tach mounted. I now wish I would have taken pics. My duster had a console and it was 4 speed when I got it. It was all cut up for a Verta-gait shifter and the console brackets were air chiseled off the hump but they were original.

Let me know if I could help with completing yours. I will be buying the repo tops. If they are not as discribed I will get one of my sets chromed. Steve

A pic I found of someones post of how my carpet was cut but the edging was sewn under without the vinyl pieces. But mine was suppose to be a 69.

Received the console today and like I thought it was a auto console.

The hump cover look's to be a factory replacement piece. If it is not someone did a nice job. It fit my console perfect.

Also the console was for air. and there was a switch inside I never saw before. Any ideas of what it could be for? Here are the pics . Notice the different in the shift boot for the floor for the console shifter. It is larger for the rectangle base. I will keep the fiber cover and resell the console with the 4 spd top I don't use.

So you will be reproducing the fiberglass hump for the shift linkage and offering it here ? It should sell good if priced right.

Steve, what is the switch #? Thats weird, Ive never seen anything like that mounted in a console before??
Pm sent on 4 spd top plate as well

To 4spdragtop but som info as well

I may sell my factory shifter also . If I get an a-body console pistol grip that are now available. and the after market boot can be fitted to the rectangle shifter handle.

The way the fiber piece fits the side it looks as if the auto carpet may work. And carpet this piece separately.

I have known of some 71 cars with the 4 spd, console that "they never made" My console is from a guy who said he had a 71 console 4 spd car. The console I bought from him was suppose from a 69. The console had a three holes in it to fasten this piece. The front hole had a clip which i removed. The rest were already there. I set the console in the car last night. it fits perfect over the hump in the car. Wonder if this is how the 71's were done. Without the half cardboard piece. It fits way to perfect to be a repop.

Also who ever bought this piece must have gotten a pattern to cut the auto console. It is already marked on the inside to be cut.

I will now buy a auto carpet and then cover the piece separately. you won't be able to tell. and will be alot nicer then letitng a long carpet droop over the hump..

My car is far from done the motor machine work gets started today at the shop. Mine are always on the back burner unless I push the kid. So I will have time to have more of these made.

I will also insert this in the post without my number so I don't have to type it again. Call anytime. Steve

Yes I will be but be patient. They will be a FABO listed Part. I am old and slow so I will find someone young and swift to do them. Read new post above.

I don't know what the switch is. It has a PN so I was hoping to learn from a numbers guy on here. It looks as though it came on there and I never saw the switch on anything before. It has two turn notches and a spring loaded push switch as a wiper switch would. But what is it???

Seems to work like a reversible convertible top switch.,
