I don't know about the early A's but the later the bellhousings are the same. Nothing is as durable as a standard trans for those long drives when your sucking up the A/C. Keep it durable.

Yes, I could one day, but for know I am happy with my old trans, it does not have the needed tailshaft that I would have to have to put a good floor shifter in it.
But Like you said an a833 :-# I think that is the proper name for it, 4 speed would go in easy enough, put a floor shift hump in and hope I can keep my bench seat, witch I believe I can. :hello2:
