Hey, I'm looking to set up my 67 valiant 318 for drag racing in hopes of keeping up with a friend in his 383 duster.

Needless to say I need all the help I can get.

I've been looking at Koni SPA1 drag shocks on summit racing, I've heard about 90/10 shocks but these sound like they'd be better, and perhaps more street friendly too.

Car is just on 350hp at the fly, has /6 torsion bars. 3.7 gears and 25 inch street tires.

I'm thinking of getting the rear leaf springs reset to help the car launch.

Any advice appreciated.

Hi frosty,

i just changed the old worn stock front shocks to a set of CEE 90/10´s. Actually the new shocks make the car ride better on the street...one of the original ones was damaged. I wanna say, if you don´t go too fast in the streets they are no problem.

I think you will need 4.10 gears to catch the BB car. Read this thread from my friend Cory and his long way with the teen....finally he´s in the 11s!

use the less expensive 90/10's and the tallest widest slick you can get in the wheel house. install a set of slapper bars, a cheap easy way to get hook.

Thanks guys.

I appreciate that slick tires would definitely dramatically improve my launch however I sorta wanna see what the car can be capable of in street trim, at least for the time being. (my first time drag racing this car)

This also means keeping the 3.7 gears as in my opinion that ratio is a good compromise between street and strip.

Later on there's always the possibility of slicks and nitrous, as the bottom end is nigh on bulletproof (steel crank, H-beams and forged pistons)

Would slapper bars be at all beneficial without the slicks?

Are they something that can be bought or are they usually a custom fabrication type situation?

Find a set of 3000 lb super stock springs and just bolt them in. Summit and Jegs sells them. You can add some 4 degree spring wedges if you need more bite. A set of Rancho 9 way adjustable rear shocks will help also. It will be ok on the street, a little stiffer than the old worn out springs.
