I finally decided, with an obvious change in the wx, that I would start on the disk changeover. Now I realize there's many of us "old guys" on here, but for you young'uns if you want some idea of how I feel, just

Stay up without sleep for about 3 days, and have a friend beat you with a rubber hammer until you hurt all over, then eat some junk that makes ya crap "irregular."

So thank the Lord for power tools, LOL and my backyard hoist

Got the front suspension out today. It's got a spool mount K, and even though the K with the stuff I just got is "nicer" I've leavin' it in there, fer now. Also not swapping in the power steering for now, either.

And.........this afternoon went pretty well. Got most of the new hardware "roughed in" under the car.

I agree....was the hardest thing I did on the Barracuda.

I worked 4 days on getting the alignment adjusting cam
bolts out. Solid rust. Lost 3 knuckles doing it. Tools slip...
I wear gloves now.

Yep, I feel your pain. You will enjoy it being done.

I feel lucky. The cam bolts came right out. I junked a Duster/ Demon some time ago and "wrecked the car" (a ruster) to save the A arms. Today went a LOT better than expected, makes me wonder "what will go wrong next," LOL

'All this stuff' may come back out this winter to swap the K, don't know. In the deal I got a welded/ painted late K, rebuilt PS box, which is not going in the car at this time.

The K under the car is already a spool mount which I put in the car early this spring.

But I've about decided to eventually put PS back in the car. I'm getting to damn old to argue with manual steering, and have read some on "homemade" PS pump mods for a "firm feel"

Just got in, got all the major fasteners torqued. Tomorrow I'll double check, and install cotters

Ready to argue with calipers. I mounted them to the rear.

Got quite a bit done today, just as a rain / thundershower struck. Got one side all done.

Still have to turn the other rotor, pack bearings, and assemble the other side.

When I tore off the drums I bought inverted flare couplings and plugs to cap off the brake tubes.

I used air to blow the caliper pistons out against a 2x4, then filled the caliper with a syringe. Then install the hose, and use a C clamp to retract the piston. The result is a completely bled caliper and hose. You do have to hold the hose "up," LOL

When I put the one side together, pumped the master a few strokes to expand the piston, I had a nice hard pedal with no further bleeding.

"Good Luck" says I on the other side.

I am sooo jealous of two things. You have a hoist and disc brakes! I have neither but really want both.

I'll tell ya. I could not do ANYTHING anymore without that hoist. Best 1200 bucks I ever spent. I'm so beat up with osteo issues, there's no way I can crawl around "under."

And I use it for lots of other junk, too, a "utility hoist."

I had to pull the final drives off the little Farmall some time ago to replace the brakes. indispensible. (That little Farmall 100, (Super A) with the hoist was no. TEU of the smartest 1100 bucks I ever spent.

I had a platform I could throw on it to do some work under a little garden tractor. A life saver.

And I use it for junk like test firing engines...................

You can't see it here, but I'm dropping the engine out of this pig of a van onto my old trailer.......

You hung the calipers on the rear?
So you had to do what I did on a 67 B-Body swap?
The factory LCA sway bar attach points prevented hanging them on the front and the A body spindles are swapped side to side.
I used banjo hoses from a St. Regis. Seems like I asked for a 82.
And Diplomat calipers.
Your hose routing looks like what I tried the first time with a little twisty to keep it clear.
This is what I settled on. It doesn't hit at any point of travel up or down either. The hose swings out of the way.
The car is still on jack stands. Some day, I'll get time to work on it, maybe.
I like your yard host a lot.
The snow, not so much.

You need to swap your calipers side to side to get the bleeders "up." I didn't HAVE to mount them to the rear, as this is set up for a factory late (73/ later) sway bar, but I thought "some day" I might put a heavier sway bar on

I used standard Duster/ Dart 73/4 calipers, I don't think I knew about the larger bore ones fitting

I bought 78-9? Volare hoses, and am not sure I needed to. I have one old hose off the old 73/4 calipers, and I thing it would have been OK. The Volare hoses have a crimped on bracket which you have to bend open and remove.

I may have to change the "twist" that's in the "back of my mind" to check steering clearance, etc.

That old tractor is too cool!

Thanks, I guess I have a "thing" for Farmalls. This is our old about a '24 "Regular" the day we sold it about 10? years ago. I DROVE it on the trailer. I came awful close to crying that day!!

It's all stripped off now, but Dad rigged a belt drive hydraulic pump with a NICE blade for snow, built a front - mount buzz saw (you can see part of it in the photo at the rear of the tractor) and added generator and lights. There's a space between the clutch housing and gearbox, and he welded an old flywheel in there and added an old Ford starter.

But I'm no stranger to hand cranking. I used to get home from school, and "if I could start it" I'd get the driveway plowed before Dad got home. These old "impulse magneto" rigs start if you can manage to get them turned at ALL

This thing was a real SOB to drive on our rough ground, I used to scoot forward on the seat and clamp my knees around the wheel. It got "away" from Dad one time hitting a drainage, and damn near broke his hand.

And NO GUARD on that saw. I used to stand there, all of 12 years old, in my slick rubbers on wet grass in the fall and "throw away" from the saw, that big *** blade just LOOKIN' to take off a hand arm, or worse.

Below, the forerunner to the "Regular." This is the same blade and arms that ended up on the Farmall. This is the power/ chassis of an old grader. I've never found out who manufactured it, had a flathead Ford 6. When the "wrecker" hauled it out to our place, it was the belly pan, engine, and rear tires.

Dad built the rest, the hood, cluster, old radiator, and about 36? Ford front axle. These had (unused) cable, not hydraulic brakes. The right hand steering wheel was an antique worm steering box which hand winched the blade up and down with the drums just visible up by the rad. This is my little brother and sister about '59. I would have been 11 years old. Dad used to say it took "40 acres to turn it around," LOL

The bottom photo was the Farmall in 1960. We had just bought it for less than 300 bucks from my Great Uncles. These Regulars had no and needed no steering brakes. They had individual wheel brakes activated by cables hooked to the front steering. You could literally throw the wheel into a turn, and the inside brake would lock, allowing you to spin the tractor around on one rear wheel

You can see the lamp here, so Dad has already got the electrics on 'er. I believe this was just after repainting it.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Hum? I will have to check into getting the bleeders on top. That will make the banjo fitting on the bottom and the hose might work better or not as good.
May not work at all.
I can't remember how they were on the Diplomat,
But I've got some A body calipers too.
Maybe that will be different with the bleeder on top?

The bleeders ALWAYS need to be on top, no matter what

On the calipers I've got you could have pointed them forward, as well, but I could not figure out how to untangle them from the suspension, LOL

I found picture of a Dippy caliper on line. He's got them mounted wrong to.
The suggestion was made to take the calipers off insert a board simulate the rotor and bleed it upside down.

Do you know a source for the new aluminium Master cylinder brake rod boot and what are your calipers off of?

Don't know on the master

My calipers are stock 73/4 Duster. As I said, I didn't know when I bought them, about the larger caliper pistons.

Well back on the ground ------sort of. Got the driver side done, and might have "a little" air in that side, as the pedal is a little spongy. No big

But the tires (which were "free") HAVE to go. They look obnoxious, and hit the front of the fender.

I THOUGHT this afternoon was gonna be easy--get the trailer out back, drive the car on, and get ready for alignment WRONG

Ran out of energy, had to mod some old loading ramps I have and one thing led to another. STILL do not have the car on the trailer.

Tomorrow's another day, but I'm slowly gaining. Have to get my neighbor to help finish bleeding

I STILL have not decided whether to paint the rear wheels gray or the front ones black, LOL

car looks great buddy. had no idea you were in Idaho. just a few hundred miles away.

Yesterday and today, got some 60 series 14's as there are clearance problems, Adjusted T bars and FINALLY got caster / camber adjusted on both sides. Now I need to attack the toe adjustment, but I'm pretty beat. No energy, anymore.

She's done fer now. Gonna meet Inkjunkie tomorrow for lunch. Might have to add some more caster, although it tracks fairly straight down the freeway. These are used front tires, so that might be a factor. I've decided (eventually) to spray the front spokes black to match the rear, rather than other way around

<<<<<<------New Avatar, LOL

I wish 'ta 'ell that those Stang wheels looked more like the old ones

No, the upper A arm cams, which adjust both caster and camber "at the same time," LOL so it's a juggling act

Yep. My car has those in. This afternoon roared out to Post Falls and met Doug, Inkjunkie, for a little late lunch. Had fun lyin' ta each other about how great our lives are, LOL!!!
