Is this motor worth anything?

Recently, one of my close friends rolled his 1990 Dodge D100 Truck. The Truck sat on his property and his parents are sick of seeing the mangled wreck. So he gave me the truck. I was wondering if any off the truck is of value or am I better off parting pieces out and buying different motor and trans for my 74 Duster. The thing ran good and felt pretty quick for a truck. Just wanted to see what you guys would suggest.
Thanks, Sam

Yes, Its a 90 so its probably either a 318 with 302 heads and a roller cam or a 360 with 308 heads and a roller cam.. Someone correct me if Im wrong.

it was free right? if your thinking of swapping it in from a slant 6 you will have about double the hp. its a pretty easy swap. the trans might not fit though.

HE LIVED!?
Lucky guy, to say the least. Hope he is doing alright.

What size motor? I'm guessing a 318 in a D-100. The truck as a whole looks like scrap to me, but the motor could probably be used or sold to fund a motor for your duster. Give us some more details on the motor and then we can all answer your question better.

Probably a 318 / 5.2, roller cam motor with 302 heads. Not sure on the trans, may be a 904 or 727 overdrive variant. The motor may make a good candidate so long as you swap over to a carburated intake, carb and regular electronic distributor (unless you feel ambitious and want to tackle fuel injection.) Not sure on the trans though, might need to hook up some power and a switch to engage the o/d and/or lock up the converter. Need to look into if anything in the trans is computer controlled. If you lose the trans I'd try to find a non o/d trans but a lock up one and keep the stock converter, as its probably balanced for that type of motor, or else get one of those cast crank B&M flex plates with the weights on the flex plate.

Sweet, that is what I was hoping to hear. im going to pull the motor trans rearend and transfer case. try and sell what wont fit and scrap the rest. all im out is the 2 hrs it took to load it up and take it home. If I was ambitious enough to tackle that TBI, any suggestions for quick power adders?
Thank you Guys. I want to do this on my low budget of a college student.

cam, intake, headers. the basic three. pretty much the best you will do on a small budget like I did. find yourself a decent holley 650 vac secondary and send it to RustyRatRod and he will build you a badass carb

Before you get ambitious, pull the motor, drop the pan, and inspect the bearings. Depending on the nature of the rollover, it could've run upside down for some time with no oil in the pressure system.

Simplest might be to keep the TBI. I think the fuel controller is close-coupled to the engine, so would be easy to keep together. Probably just feed the box +12V, gnd, and ignition and you are done. As I recall, it is basically that simple even for later Magnum engines. If the box is smashed and you don't want to get another, you could run the TBI from a Holley Pro-jection box, which you can find cheap on ebay, but get one with a harness. Megasquirt is another option. For spark, you can use a 72+ small-block distributor w/ box or the original if you keep its controller (same box as fuel probably).

The ECU for the TBI setup is a complete controller (fuel and spark). I had to replace one in my friend's '90 Ramcharger with a 360. IIRC, the controller was located near the header panel behind the headlight bucket...can't remember which side though. Judging solely by the pictures, that *may* be damaged.

If it is a D100 it will not have a transfer case, is it 2wd or 4wd?

If its a 2wd the trans will need a little extra space to fit I. The cars trans tunnel. Nothing you can't handle. It's a 904 variant. This will mean a shorter driveshaft a local place can do the work.

Scrap the FI system. There's no performance enhancement worthy of that system. Better off installing an electric fuel pump and run a car on top of the proper intake.
I don't know of those exhaust manifolds will work for you.
Summit has inexpensive headers and a true dual exhaust system that win work great. I used this set up once on a '74 Duster. Great fit, minor pipe cutting at the bumper.

In post 7 he mentions the transfer case.

It's a complete piece of crap and not worth a plug nickel. Send it to me.

as said before scrap the tbi set up i had nothing but problems with mine

on the early tbi the intake bolts are the same as the earlier la blocks so you can use any older intake (altough keep in mind 318 intakes will only work on 318s 360 intake will work on both but a 360 intake on a 318 has been questioned in the efficiency department) manifold the magnum motors are where they switch it up the intake bolts go straight up and down rather then at an angle as for the fuel pump i believe the non magnum roller motors still have the fuel pump cam in them they just have a block plate i know the cars still had them for sure but not sure on the trucks if not you can buy an adapter kit from http://www.hughesengines.com just buy the one for the magnum motor it will work but if its apart id see if you can find a cam from a 97 up magnum motor the power band is way better also you will need an early la style distributer to swap the tbi one out as the tbi has differnt sensors to fire the injectors save the starter also if factory it should be a high torque mini starter that replace the old noisy tractor style ones as for the temp sense and oil presure gauges they are the same as the la motors you just dont plug in the others since the computer will be gone as for exhaust the manifolds will bolt on for la block or magnum just be sure with older maniflolds the cover the small air injection port hole that is under the exhaust port

just some fun fyi you can swap many magnum motor parts on these motors magnum heads will work with matching push rods and head gaskets and also they fit the magnum cams i found this out when i was told there are no after market cams made for this motor well i bought a newer magnum cam and fule pump adapter and have had no problems also fun thing is the roller block car motor i had the heads off they have factory flat top pistons in them so with the magnum heads i got a good compression boost also (dont know about the truck though since i never had the heads off)

also to save headach of drive shaft cutting and tunnel modding a 727 or 904 will bolt up just match 360 converters to a 360 and a 318 to a 318

If the instrument cluster isn't all mangled up, I'd be interested in buying it.

it is actually in good shape from what I remember I will get back to you over thanksgiving since that is the next time I am home. I am excited for this project. should go easier than my first build! Thanks for all the help!

I got good news!!! I believe the mechanical fuel pump lobe is there even though its tbi. I had a '89 tbi 360 out of a van and I unbolted the plate covering the hole where the fuel pump would bolt and inside it had the fuel pump lobe. Install a 4bbl intake and bolt in a mechanical fuel pump and your motor is set.... except the oil pan and distributor
