Looks like the car kinda nosed over on the launch, to me. It probably gave a few warning signs prior to that. JMO Too bad about the car, but I'm glad the driver walked away from it.

This is why you replace the cast drum with 250,000 miles on it, with a steel drum.

Thread about this earlier but it all goes Kaboom.

This the very reason why I was ranting about not buying trans parts/convertors used the other day.....where is my buddy that feels other wise???

I've got a steel drum in my 727.. this is exactly why I bought one.

Is there a simple way to Identify the cast drum at a casual glance. Its been a very long time since Ive been in a 727. I need to verify the one in my trans.

If it's a stock transmission, it'll have the cast drum in it. OEM always cast, as it was cheaper to build.

Also, cast drums typically only had 3 sometimes 4 friction plates in them.
Can't speak for the hemi-drum though as they're as scarce as hen's teeth. Maybe someone who has an oem hemi drum can tell you how many frictions in a non-modified strock drum.
Some aftermarket steel drums can now accomodate 6 friction plates.

For the hard core racer looking to shave weight in the trans., there are also aluminum drums available. Never recommended for the street though, too high a maintenace item.
