who is into Nascar

in chat i have heard a number of people talking about the nascar races and i dont really know much about it myself .......i am not familiar with driver names and all that kind of stuff.

well honestly, the other day i googled the word Nascar and now i think i am going to go to my dad's house and watch the next race on a big TV and see what i can learn from it.

i am interested in getting more into the current Nascar happenings and it the next race is Sept. 15 at 2:15 est.

who else watches the races and keeps up with it ?

I guess watch it and see if you like it. Personally i think current nascar blows. It used to be great when the bodies were real production street car sheetmetal up thru the late 1980s. Nascar now wants all the.cars exactly equal, so they are all technicolor blobs going around a racetrack. The 1960s and early 1970s was where it was great. Big inch thundering hemi V8s petty plymouths and dodges, hell any plymouth or dodge for that matter. None of these cars had power steering either. This is why they wrapped tape around the steering wheel rim to make it thicker to grasp it. Toyota in nascar what a joke. I saw one of their engines in a magazine once it had a chevy bellhousing pattern on the back, a ford type distributer up front, and wad a pushrod engine as required by the rules. Toyota never made a pushrod V8 for anything as a street car, so how does that qualify them to use it in nascar.

Back in the day a manufacturer had to make and sell a minimum of 1,000 of a particular engine , and 500 of a particular body type to the public for nascar to qualify to be able to run the engine type, or body style. This is how we ended up with the 426 street hemi, and charger daytonas, and plymouth superbirds. Chrysler had to sell this stuff to the public in order for nascar to let it be raced.

Also back in the day it was a manufacturers race. If mopar made a better engine or better bodystyle aerodynamically than the rest well so be it. Until the end of 1970 that is. Bill France Sr. said no more alternate bodystyles, conventional bodies only. The superbird was king for one year then nascar plucked its feathers.

Mopar back then always found a way to engineer around nascar rulebooks. I say nascar today sucks. Its all about the drivers, and crap like that.

I think australian supercar has more in common with old nascar where they take a street production car and turn it into a race car just like it was for nascar in the old days. Rani read about nascars golden age, and look at the pix of the cars. You missed nascar when it was great back in the day.
