I picked up a 73 k frame for my 67. I like the idea of the spool mounts over the biscuit ones.

What is a good way to get the 40 years of grime and dirt off the damn thing so I can paint it?

I like how there is a sway bar integrated into the k frame as well. Any pros or cons to this?

Is this a good idea or should I keep the 67 k I have?

Thanks

I power washed mine with some solvent and a 4000psi machine. Came out great, but still needed some elbow grease in the nooks and crannies.

Many guys have switched to the 73+ k's because of the better motor mount system. The sway bar design also gives you a little more ground clearance.

I say git'r done.

You can always call and ask how much. It's hard to get the road grime out of the internal corners, no matter what you do. Most places these days have one of those spray cleaners and I don't think that will work well enough to get inside.

Media blast the thing. Before you paint it. Fully weld all the seams and engine mounts making that k frame so muh stronger.

Agreed, hot tank it first at some local machine shop, then weld all the seams then if you can,get it sand blasted. If not then after welding just wire brush it and soak it with epoxy then paint or just rustoleum.

Eastwood makes "internal frame coating" and what I would do after final blasting or wire brushing, is spray a can of this stuff inside the K frame, then paint the outside.

Should last you a hundred years then.

I used a putty knife and oven cleaner and scraped what i could off.

Then threw it into a sandblast cabinet and slowly worked all the crap off.

I repainted mine with rustoleum.

So far everything has fit back together and i have no complaints yet, but i have yet to drive it. Oh i also upgraded the steering with the bigger c body tie rod ends.

+1 on the welding. And before you weld grind those seams down. Specificalle the one to the rear of the crossmemeber that is closestr to the sump of the pan

Got the k dropped at the machine shop today to get cleaned. Here is a before shot. I scrubbed at it for a little bit before I said f this... Here is a before shot.
