67 Hemi Dart Progress

Another FYI......if you're using the K frame and TTI mounts...no way no how will that Milodon oil adapter fit beteen the filter boss and the K frame.

It will be remote mounted. The motor has the TTI block off plate on it. And we will come out the side of the block through the test ports just above the factory oil filter location.

Well we had a fascinating weekend with all the tti junk... oops I mean products.

Anyone have issues getting the Hemi installed using TTI motor mounts for the early k frame (biscuit mounts) we spent way too long trying to drop the motor home, spent way too long trying to get the TTI headers to fit, the headers fit great until we tried to reinstall the torsion bar on the drivers side. We ended up talking to the tube really nice and it just would not move so we ended up bashing it's brains out with a sledge. The tube finally decided to move after seeing it out way. We measured the clearance just like they said, and everything was good, the crank bolt was posisitioned correctly but they just did not fit. A simple motor install took about a day and a half longer than it needed to. Oh well it's done now. Time to move on with life.......

Your experience today is exactly what I went through when I started my build. Thing is, denting header tubes, bending and forcing things is the type of things I had to do back when I was a kid working on my cars. I was absolutely not willing to put my current build together that way, so I sent all that stuff back too TTI and bought the AlterKtion. Never looked back...best thing I ever did...

Amen to that mate, I am aware that tollerances in the 60's/70's are not to the quality they are today, but seriously I don't know how they developed most of these parts to be sold as a mass product. It's like they were rushed to get them out asap instead of spending the extra time to ensure correct fitment. When you pay $700 for headers, $200 for engine mounts or be what it may you don't expect to have to have these items modified! I could probably quote how many times I have said - why didn't I just go with a tricked 340! It should be worth it all in the end!!!

Mate, I couldn't agree with this quote more, I wish I lived in the USA and I would have bought the alterktion in a heartbeat. When you have to factor in the cost of getting one of those over here (they are about 7500 from a vendor over here) even if you bought from the USA then the shipping and getting it engineered (they are anal over here) would just make it too expensive. BUT boy would it save some headaches, have I mentioned how much I hate torsion bars - those buggers get in the way of EVERYTHING!

Keep the updates coming mate :)

Here are some pictures from the weekend.

Good move - the Milodon adapter plate that one magazine recommended just doesn't work for sh1t....at least in an A Body...

I have a strange question for you. How much distsnce do you see from intake port on the head to hood? I am trying to see what intake I can get under a stock hood with efi. I won't run a stocker but cut down drag pack or mod man with a box. Just wanting to see if my 12 inches is acurate guess on my end? Again that's the intake port on the head to the place where a stock hood would rest closed.

By the way love the **** out your car. I'm going big turbo on my newgen dart.

Man... Life sure gets in the way of the fun things sometimes.

We are going to be getting back into the project here in the next couple weeks!

Hmm. Not sure. I will try to get a measurement next time.

Thanks mate. I mean the flat hood not the open scoop that is. I really really don't want a cowl hood on my car.

Update:

Been collecting parts and what not. Picked up a 73 k frame and spool mounts. Ordered new BBP 8 3/4 axles from dr. Diff. Got a disc brake swap from ccp and a new set of wheels/tires. Also picked up some gauges from speed hut. Starting again next week, super excited to get this thing rolling.

Good to see you're still in the game!

Let us know if the spool mounts from TTI work better than the biscuit mounts. I bought a '73 and up K-frame and I am hoping that the fit is better.

Joe-

I have spool mount TTI mounts - what in particular were you curious about fitment?

I've got ~2.5 degrees tail down (with keisler tko600)
I notched the passenger fender (would have fit without, but I wanted to be able to pull the valve covers)
Sits level side to side
Decent clearance for custom headers around my factory PS box
Still had to trim the outer shell from steering column
Oil pan clears no problem
Had to run TTI Oil block off plate
had to notch the passenger fender overhang near the alternator (LX alternator, don't have a jeep one to try)

Will do. The k is at a machine shop getting blasted/cleaned. Install will be next week Monday/Tuesday.

Those damn biscuits are a pain. I just didn't like the way we had to trim and cut to try and work the damn thing in. I have heard the spool mounts are 100x better than the biscuit.

Another thing I like about the newer k is the integrated sway bar and we are going to be able to weld it up to make it stronger. It's also going to get painted with all new poly bushings.

Ready to get rolling!

Wow, Thanks HemiD@rt and Uhcoog1,

That was EXACTLY the type of information I wanted. I had read enough first hand accounts of the biscuit mounts being "wonky" (motor not sitting level, motor cocked, header fitment issues, etc.) that I was concerned that I had made the wrong decision to go with the TTI mounts and instead should have simply saved my money and gone with the Alter-k-tion.

Since I'd like to finish this project before I retire, I started to collect the parts to go with the TTI mounts. I decided to find a '73 K-Member since I'm not a very big fan of the biscuit mounts. I broke a lot of those mounts in my '70 340 Duster. Since I am putting the motor in a slant six car I had to change the k-member anyways and finding a 73 K-Member is as easy as finding a 67-72, so I went that route.

I am glad to hear that the motor should drop in with minimal fuss.

All of the minor tweaks that you two mentioned are clearly doable and shouldn't make me pull my hair out.

Thanks again.

Joe Dokes

I had alignment probs a lot. What I did was cutting the Schumacher mounts, leveled the engine, welded the mounts. Thats now 3 years ago and until now I have now probs at all with the biscuits. ( But if I would have been able to get a 73up K-Member here for cheap I would have done what you guys are doing... ;) )

We fixed the TTI Issue by simply taking 1/2 inch out of the left side adapter ( Your passenger side)

This resulted in both moving the motor to the centre and levelling it.

It ended up 2 degrees tail down.

To prevent the biscuits from tearing...we fitted a custom torque strap.
